Mercedes EQE, Rivian R1S
Tesla changed consumer tolerance of uneven panel gaps. It's stuff only Sandy Munro fetishes over. Most people don't care anymore. They don't see it from the driver seat. And Rivian interiors are better put together than Teslas. And that's what most Tesla owners notice and give praise.
That might have been true circa 2020. All of the newer Teslas have been in have been much better put together than my rattletrap R1S. I can't stand how cheap the interior door pull feels. Clicks and creaks when you push on it. Passenger seat rattles constantly when I drive, rattles in both B pillars. Sure, the interior materials look nice but it's far from premium once it gets going and you hear all the rattles and clunking.

I'm still getting an R2 -- but I don't think it's accurate that the build quality in my R1S is better a Tesla -- it just has nicer materials.

One bad example doesn't represent entire lot. There are clearly R1 owners who don't have issues with their interiors.

The color name is certainly not an accident if you are a local like RJ.

Saw this R2 yesterday walking my dog in Newport Beach. Parked in a residential area. Nice looking ride! Note handsome wire haired pointing Griffon, Lola

Preprod. In before someone else mentions these panel gaps. Hope they tighten this up in prod. 😆

Probably not, which is why we'd wind up going with a darker-ish color ;)

Just want to echo this. People in this forum keep saying "Rivian makes better quality vehicles than Tesla" and I don't think that holds up. We have a new Model Y and the thing is a vault. All of the test drive vehicles I've been in for Tesla feel very well put together. While Rivian makes a good product, they are still some consistency issues as well but seems like it has gotten better with the Gen 2 platform. My takeaway - new vehicles will struggle as the company learns how to best put them together. Over time, things will improve. I do believe the same will happen with Rivian.

Without derailing the thread too much, if the R2 is at least as well built as our Model Y, I'll be a happy camper. The bar is higher than most people would want to admit in this forum if Tesla is going to be the point of comparison.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
Setting sun, not exactly brightest time of day. It's a metallic paint and, doing what metallic paints do, vary vastly pending the environment it is in. There's also the image processing of the camera being used, the compression of the file being saved and then compressed again when uplaoded/shared on various online platforms, and then color calibration of the display you are viewing with. One single original image can end up very different to different viewers.
This is so true. 💯 Gotta see it in person and under different lighting conditions.
