When was the last time this happened? Is everyone's 2FA auth expiring at the same time and overwhelming the servers every time this happens? I got a new phone recently and had no issues today.
I noticed the drivers and keys missing about 30-40 mins ago but within seconds they reappeared.

Ok so update: once I got into the app it and the car worked fine all 2 hrs home.

Troubled started at about 1:12 pm. I drove 500 feet from a parking garage to a Tesla charger using the pak. Charged up 28 min went to leave and app had kicked me out and I could not get past the authentication code screen. Tried my key card, nothing. Called Rivian went through a hard reboot, , key card reset, sleep cycles. All in all about 3 hours of trying stuff.

I told them I was going to have my wife drive 2hrs out to me with the key fob now that she is out of work. They offer to call me back at 5pm when their shift ended to see how it was going. I said great. At this point I’m frustrated as I’ve been stuck about 3 hours now and it’s nearly 4pm. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the Rivian app by this point multiple times. I keep trying authentication codes over and over to get into the app. At 4:25 I was able to get past the authentication code and get into the app. Car shifted into to gear and I took off for home. I called service back and said app is working no need to call me at 5. Called my wife and said abort mission.

When I got home turned my phone off completely, tried the key fob and it worked fine. Then I tried my wife’s key card and it unlocked/locked the car and allowed me to shift into gear. Tried with my key card again and nothing. Couldn’t unlock or lock the car and wouldn’t allow me to shift into gear. What’s weird is I successfully used my key card this weekend to unlock the car. So I guess my key card failed between Sunday and today and the authentication code system also pooped the bed. Strange set of circumstances.

I guess the moral of the story is don’t trust the key cards or PAK if you’re going to be far from home. I thought having the card was enough back up redundancy to
PaK but lesson learned, bring the FOB

I received these emails from RivianRoamer earlier:

——- first email
Rivian is currently experiencing cloud-side authentication and data connectivity issues. Authentication impact started at 12:35 PM PT, with broader data connectivity issues following at 12:45 PM PT. Expect vehicle data on Rivian Roamer to be affected while Rivian's systems are degraded. A follow-up email with the full extent of the impact will go out after resolution.
—— second email
Rivian's cloud-side authentication and data connectivity issues were resolved at approximately 1:35 PM PT. Vehicle data on Rivian Roamer is flowing again. Telematics data from the ~60-minute service degradation may be missing.
——
This likely impacted you.

Sounds spot on. I feel like the key card not working was just bad luck. Will see on May 4th service appointment what the deal with the key card is.

Update: The Key Card was DOA. Got a new card under warranty, all works now as it should.

I am really hoping that’s the case. New rule: more than 20 min from the house bring the fob….

the app problem may be linked to something with multiple point authentication codes, seems like others can’t access bank accounts or west law because the pin entry just spins.
Oh, yeah. Just got knocked out of the Rivian Android app; and it is not allowing me to log back in. Deleted and reinstalled the app. Not taking the MFA pin codes (through either authenticator or SMS). I suspect it's a server-side error.

Anyone else having problems?

Still got my card key if it's not cleared up by the time i need to head out later.
I was 100 miles from home yesterday picking up materials for a project. When I walked out to my R1T to drive home I was prompted to sign back into Rivian. I entered my username and password. When I entered my MFA code I got a spinner. I was dead in the water for 2 hours until I was finally able to get a code to work. I am an Apple iPhone user. Needless to say I was beyond pissed! This is the first time I have encountered this issue since taking delivery in March 2025.

This is why keycards fit in your wallet.

I had mine did me zero good.
Yeah, but that was a rare hardware issue, no? This would solve all but the most extreme edge cases.

Only thing I trust now is the fob. I don’t know why the card stopped working between Sunday and yesterday. My wife’s card worked fine yesterday even when mine would not so unlikely an issue with the car itself. Having the card gave me a false sense of security and since it failed, rare or not, that means it can and will fail for others so perhaps having too much confidence in it is misplaced. I plan to carry the fob and the card for longer trips going forward.

It was an outage at Rivian. It’s my understanding if you tried to access your vehicle during the outage nothing worked because all driver and access keys were removed. I saw this happening intermittently when I accessed my mobile app (see screenshot below). I was home and tried to access mine but was successful due to the intermittent nature. Others on Reddit reported problems accessing their vehicles as well.

I don't think this affected local access via keycard/FOB. I accessed multiple times via keyband during the outage.

Mine still showed all the keys I know because Rivian had me check that the key card showed and then the removed it and had me confirm it disappeared from the list then had me do a hard reboot and confirm the key showed up again. Pretty significant outage if it affected all the methods available to use the car. Wish I had been at home and able to test every key card and fob during the outage.

Some reported their inability to access.

Having a key card in my wallet is a good idea. But this issue I encountered yesterday would not have been resolved with physical card in hand. I had multi-factor DRIVE enabled which requires me to be signed into my mobile app. Since i was unable to get verified I was unable to authorize my drive.
