Any shot at R2 delivery by July?

Okay, I know nobody *really* knows, so I guess I'm looking for consensus laughter/mockery or consensus hope/affirmation.

I am planning a 2,500 mile roadtrip in mid-July. What chances do I have at making the trip in a Rivian R2?

I am going for a Launch Edition in my Rivian delivery preferences. I am a previous R1S owner.

My reservation date is March 7, 2024 at 3:55pm MT.

Are you agreeing to buy the Launch Edition? Those will be the first off the line and the first in the hands of Rivian R2 buyers. If not, I don't think your chances are very high.

I do not see a current Rivian in your list of vehicles. Seems like odds are low if you do not currently have a Rivian.

These are the terms for priority R2 Deliveries.

Eligibility: To qualify for this Offer you must (1) place a reservation for and ultimately purchase or lease from Rivian an R2 vehicle when made available to you by Rivian and (2) own/lease or have owned/leased a Rivian R1 vehicle in advance of your purchase or lease of such R2 vehicle. When placing your R2 reservation, you must use the same email as the Rivian Account tied to your R1 vehicle. This Offer is available only to those who have reached the age of majority in their place of residence and who physically reside in the United States or Canada.

Good luck, honestly if it is anything like the R1 deliveries there is no real rhyme or reason to the delivery queue.

After Launch Edition choice and R1 owner status, it will be down to location and timing. The timing of your order is good, but don't know about your location. I suspect areas with dedicated spaces will be priority. Really depends how many are getting launch editions and how many are waiting for the lighter interiors. So you might have a chance, but do temper expectations. I'm just hoping by end of 2026 myself.

If previous owner, you are ok with black interior, are getting the launch edition and are within 300 miles of the factory then, honestly...maybe.

Based off conversations and what I'm gathering, a lot of people are waiting for the cheaper models. Even with all the reservations, you have factor in how many already have/will get a different vehicle, will drop out all together or just wait for the cheaper R2 to be released.

With things ramping up now, I wouldn't count on it but also not put it outside the realms of possibility. I'm sure we we'll have a clearer picture come June.

My guestimate for me is closer to fall but only time will tell.

There's many variables, not least the production ramp, but that aside, I suspect the typical take rate on any of these reservations is 25% on a good day (reducing, the longer the reservation period gets), and because of the LIDAR thing and people wanting the cheaper models, I would guess that the take rate for Launch will be closer to 10%.

this is all pure guesswork though. As we now know, the Cybertruck take rate was sub 5%, but it failed to deliver on expectations. Model 3, back in the day, eventually converted ~70%, but the world was craving a smaller EV at the time (and the Tesla brand/Elon was untarnished). R2 is typical of neither of these, it has met most, if not all, expectations, but it's also not a $35k compact.

TLDR; 50/50 on your delivery being before mid-July

I am in a similar boat, wondering whether I will be lucky enough to snag a Launch Edition early enough to go on a couple of big road trips this summer (ironically, both through Boise from Seattle). I was a mid-March 2022 R1T Launch owner and reserved within the first 24 hours for the R2. I am weirdly optimistic about getting a Launch mid-July! The question I'm wrestling with is whether I trade in my R1T for the R2... I would miss the truck cargo capacity.

I'm actually considering an R1S again but I just feel like it's "old tech" at this point — especially the HVAC/thermal management system. The R2 is smaller but as a platform I imagine they had a chance to rethink some things... so I'm probably going to take my chances and be patient.
