Sojhinn, thanks a ton for the video, super helpful.

Since I only want to do this once, I want to get the best subwoofer that will fit - any idea what the top mount depth limit is?

It's shallow we pushed the limits with the ring. I would be taking a guess. But our recommended sub from. JL Audo and the audio control one fit nicely. So stick around those numbers.

Has the signal to the new sub already been cut below a certain frequency?

Anybody know how much I should expect to pay an installer to do this for me if I give them the video and buy all the hardware myself? $500?

An audio shop could probably knock this out in a hour or two. So around there seems likely, especially if you buy the amp and sub through them.

Gotcha, I'll do that - I don't want to risk getting something that won't fit. Just ordered a kit, can't wait to actually have some bass in my R1S!

Question about the remote control bass knob - how often do you really use that?

Could I just mount it in the trunk area to allow some tuning if needed? On a daily drive basis, do you adjust it that much?

Trying to avoid running another wire throughout the cabin.

You mentioned needing to flatten the EQ - is that just for the low end? In other words, can you still tweak the mids and highs as needed?

I just wanted to do a shout out for this mod. I did it 2 years ago based on this post. https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...h-aftermarket-alpine-swr-t10-subwoofer.14310/ . You may want to check it out for additional information. Although the soonish unit is much cleaner and slicker, this link does show you how to tap a power source directly in the trunk, which is how I did it. I would recommend doing as much sound deadening as you can since you have the space open and it will serve you well in the long run, not only for fidelity, but also quieting the rear. Pics attached. I mounted the Kicker amp discreetly in the trunk under space so it is available to troubleshoot and tune in the future without removing any panels. I can send a pic of this tomorrow if anyone is interested. Didn't use the remote knob, as you can control most of the base just using the equalizer settings on the main screen. It definitely makes a big difference in the sound quality and acoustics. Thinking of doing sound deadening of the front door and front wheel wells for even more impact. Once the door panels are removed, I will most likely replace the front door 6x9 speakers with https://www.crutchfield.com/S-e3Zx0...N5sO3gU9yx3dAW3j4SeHPagbqjD1Yl7BoCLtAQAvD_BwE and that will complete my audio treatments-I plan on keeping the Rivian for a long time.

I also just want to give a shout out to the Soonish team. I bought their wireless charger 2 years ago and it was recently damaged by a teenager who got a little overzealous doing an interior detail. I requested a replacement step-down unit and Steve from Soonish sent me the replacement at no charge! Can't say enough about their products and customer service!

Im assuming you mean by OEM? Probably but I rather be safe than sorry.
My concern is about being able to adjust the cutoff frequency to the sub. I tend to like more band going to the sub (i.e. higher cutoff frequency). This results in a more immersive experience for me. I'm worried this upgrade will just make bad sound louder. Can someone comment on how this will improve the audio experience by not just adding more thump? I'm no audio expert here, just know what I like. Just making sure my expectations are realistic.

Subwoofers should only handle bass; sending them full range signals results in distorted, poor quality sound. By adjusting the high and low passes, you isolate the low frequencies to the sub where they belong.

This simple fix solves the Rivian's biggest audio flaw... a very noticeably thin and lacking low end.

Was the 2 ohm sub determined to produce a better experience over a 4 ohm sub in this application?

it’s the one I used. 4 ohm should make it the same experience.

Anyone who’s done this, any tips to pass the wire thru the firewall. Having a hard time with that one. Screw driver is poking thru but not the wire.
