I have pretty much had it with the stock Pirelli's that came on my 22"s for my Gen 2, Rivian R1T Dual Motor, Max Battery. I have nearly 8k on them and they are downright dangerous the minute we get any rain or precipitation.

I have been going back and forth on going with the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2, specifically in the 116/119 load rating versus the 115 load rating, or the Hankook ION HT in the 116 load rating.

I am leaning towards the 116/119 Michelins. My reasoning is that I live at high altitude and I frequently drive steep grades and curves on the highway at high speed. The 10ply sidewalls would flex less, even though I don't tow/haul, and more resistant to higher temperatures.

Has anyone had experience going with the 116/119 Michelin specifically?

I have those tires. Just make sure to use higher tire pressure due to the higher E load rating. 60-65psi will give you the same load capacity as the stock HL tires at 48psi.

Copy that! How is the ride? Are they wearing well?

Ride is better than the stock Pirellis even with higher pressure. Excellent wear. The E load tires have a 55,000 mile warranty but I’m at 15k and hardly noticeable still at 13/32 all around.

Amazing! Thanks for the quick replies and the feedback.

I have the same tires, run them around 65 warm, efficiency not super great but I have over 30k miles on them and are still in great shape.

If you search on the defender ltx m/s2, there are lots of feedbacks.

I run the 115 load index version because I didn't want to increase the unsprung mass significantly. The 119 version is much heavier than the 115 variant.

Michelin in general have more flexible sidewall than Pirelli or Continental tires. The Defender will ride softer than the Pirelli and does not corner as sharply as the Pirelli, if your OE was Scorpion Zero AS.

So far, I have about 23K miles on the Michelins and is at about 50% wear with two tire rotations. Since I am used to changing tires every 30~35K miles on all of our vehicles, these are lasting much longer than I am used.

Thanks. I am specifically looking for some feedback on the 116/119 version which seems to be fewer and further between. I think most have been putting the 115's on, judging from the forums. I am guessing with the max battery I have and location of driving, I think the 10ply makes the most sense. I did the same with my old F150's and I think that was the play.

We have those tires as well. I like them alot, but the one thing that is different than the stock PIrelli's is they are a tad bit noisy. I asked America's Tire why, thinking I had defective tires or they weren't balanced. The sales guy told me that the Defenders are harder (rubber) than the pirelli's which are softer and wear out quickly. I got 50k miles on the stock one on my R1T Gen1. So far the defenders are great!

I just purchased the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2,115 load rating, they were inflated to 51 when i picked up the vehicle. Do I need to increase the tire pressure? I took a 2.5 hour drive over to the beach yesterday and I usually have about 45% left on the charge but yesterday it was around 38%. Has anyone seen a reduction in efficiency?

The 115 tires use normal pressures 48psi.

I’ve been shopping for new tires as well. I’ve read mixed reviews for the Michelin’s on wet roads. I’m on 21’s and between Bridgestone and Hankook. Hankook has a rebate for $100 til May 31st which sweetens the deal. Not sure why it isn’t advertised by tire rack or any dealers. https://www.hankooktire.com/us/en/promotion/promotion-detail.199.html

Curious why people aren’t also considering the Nokian One HT tires. They seem to get great reviews and are significantly cheaper than Michelin

I was specifically asking about the 119 version of the Michelins which is different than the Nokian One HT.
