Will R2 come with portable charger?

R1 is flagship line for the brand. And since MY25 (aka gen2) mobile charger has not been standard equipment.

R2 price range is less than R1.

Rivian makes a wall charger ($800) and a portable travel charger ($400) for both CCS and NACS charging systems. Both are sold separately. In the early days automakers seemed to give owners travel chargers, but now they’re all sold separately presumably to cut costs.

I'd rather be able to select my own rather than have one baked into the cost of the vehicle.

Nope, I asked at the Chicago block party and they said no because some people already have a home charger and don't see a need for it. Makes sense to me, trying to make a more affordable vehicle, make it an accessory and lower the cost of the vehicle. I personally wouldn't not own one, I use mine on vacations and such, but to each their own

And most people, even if they don't have a L2 home charger, don't use the mobile charger... because it's even slower and limited to 32A max (in best conditions). Easy to see why they'd be losing/wasting money including it with ever single car. Hence, a gear shop accessory item rather than standard equipment. Business.

I used the mobile charger (240/32A) at my vacation home for a year or so. It was a pain in the butt to get it packed into the bag after using it. Fisker had a fire sale on their Wallbox EVSEs. Got one for about $200. Worth every $ not to use the mobile charger. There is no good reason to include one these days.

I think Apple was first to stop giving a free charger back in 2020.
Cost and environmental waste was given as the reason.

Including a portable for an EV is a bit overrated at this point.

I copied this straight off the EPA Certification Application dated 1/6/2026. Something must have changed since then?

"Rivian R2 will be natively equipped with NACS. Rivian ACC2 certified vehicles will be displayed in our
online configurator with the option for customers to select the charging cord and the adapters. The
charging cord / adapters will be available for customers as an Opt-In selectable item at no additional cost to the vehicle price. If a customer later wishes to obtain a charging cord or adapter, the customer will be able to pick one up at the nearest service center or one will be shipped to their home free of charge."

Rivian ACC2 certified vehicles will be ...

I believe ACC2 is the key qualification of that EPA declaration. Essentially it is just saying that Rivian will follow the state laws for ACC2.

California, Oregon, Washington State, New York, Massachusetts and Vermont have adopted ACC II starting in model year 2026. Colorado, New Jersey, Delaware, Rhode Island, New Mexico and Maryland join the program in model year 2027

R2 will be my first EV, but have rented several and they all had the portable charger in the trunk. Came in very handy when I stayed with friends who were not EV owners either but had a Nema 14-50 in their garage.
