Hi all,

I have the oem scorpion AT's on my R1T and I am planning on switching to the Goodyear Territory AT's (or possibly a different one, still weighing options) but I have a full size spare tire with the scorpion AT's.

Has anyone gone through anything similar? did you have to take off the spare's tire and switch it with the other brand? did you keep the spare as is?

If you're switching diameters, you really should change the spare too. At a full inch difference, I personally wouldn't ride on a different spare but it can still work in a pinch but it'll affect things like the traction control in thinking you've got one wheel spinning faster than the others but the truck should be able to compensate for it. The compact spare as an example is only 30" in diameter and I haven't seen Rivian come out and say it's only usable in certain tire configurations.

If you're keeping the diameters, I probably wouldn't bother with swapping it out unless I was doing something demanding (ie, towing) and switching to a different tire class (highway vs AT)

My plan if our R1S with OEM 21” had an unrepairable flat was to use the OEM 20” AT spare in my R1T temporarily. Seems like 34” diameter is closer to the 33” tires on it than the OEM 30” diameter temporary spare. Only difference is that it has a TPMS sensor and I’m not sure if the temporary spare has that.

This is why I'm doing 5 tire rotations. I don't want a 'new' spare tire of a different brand/size.

I always do five tire rotations. Otherwise you’re basically throwing away an unused tire every 5-6 years based on just age. So you can just keep that one until it’s too old, or buy a new one and put it in rotation. If it were me and I had a new spare like yours, I’d just keep it as an unused spare, then plan to replace it next time.

I sold an OEM Pirelli AT for $200 on Craig’s list. Unused but about three years old.
