People hate on Kyle and OOO here, but I personally like their videos and find them informative. I want to see the 70 mph range test and DCFC 10 to 80% test ASAP. Also need to see the "improved thermals" and "oversized compressor" in use when DCFC. Rivian has promised a lot, let's see it in the real world summer!
Kyle needs to cut down on the banter and never say any of the words nerd, level or 9000 again, among others. Still, I heartily agree that the OoS reviews and real-world range and charging tests are full of useful information. I hope he gets his R2 ASAP.

What I find most lacking in all vehicle launch reviews, and of course impossible to provide, are long-term reliability and owner satisfaction reports (speaking as an Ioniq5 owner currently burning down the MOSFETs in his second ICCU). I should think there'd be a market for well-researched 2-year ownership experience reviews.

The recent email said that too. No biggie, I live 15 minutes from a showroom. I'll book it long before I get one.

I’m 6’5”, more leg than torso a bit (inseam 36-37’) and I felt fine in the drivers seat, seat was NOT all the way back, had ~ 4” headroom still (short time in seat so didn’t complexly measure other than hand sideways) armrest placement was comfy, not too low, center console same (very much like my M3).Drivers console was also easily viewable from eye position (often top of steering wheel will block gauge console) and even when I got into the rear with seat in same position, it was fine (little bit of leg spread), but when SO had set the drivers seat I had at LEAST 5” between knees and back of seat.

Headroom in rear seats was the same or better..

Overall, for ME at least - not an issue. Felt very much like my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, but even more room in the backseat.
Also 6'5" and had plenty of room.

Screw R2, I just got my Slate get-ready-to-order notification! Does anyone here know how they will prioritize deliveries? 😉 I will be totally cheesed if I'm not the first one in my state to retro-roll those windows down.
I'm ordering my slate without doors, so you don't have to worry about me

How long will it take to install all the AAA batteries?

Seriously, I think Slate's a great idea and even very cool looking. If I was a twenty-something with enough skeletagility to clamber into the add-on back seats of a 2-door vehicle, I'd be all over that. Such not being the case, however, we'll probably just tell them to keep the 50 bucks and wish them well. Unless maybe they'd be willing to forward it to RJ to pay for one detent on our Premium's left haptic halo?

Excited for this time next year when I'll finally most likely be pulled to make an order. Hopefully that is enough time for them to hammer out any major problems and add the new chip and lidar.

I have a service appointment for the morning of June 9th at the Normal service center (which is located behind factory security gates). SOP is: I'll park my R1S at the visitor entrance to the factory, take a seat in the factory lobby, and a Rivian employee will shuttle my vehicle back to the service center.

Do you think I'll witness any R2 deliveries?

Slide the employee a $20 bill for a ride in a R2

Holy crap. I live in SC and always picked up my Tesla(s) in Charlotte. You can't buy a Rivian in SC but also in NC either?!? So I have to go to GA or VA? Wtf

I'm also in SC and previously had to take delivery in Atlanta. Since Rivian has opened multiple Service Centers in-state now, hopefully we can pick up our R2s locally.

Tesla is the only EV company that was grandfathered in here in NC. So while Rivian can have as many service centers as they want, they still can’t sell in North Carolina unless the state legislature changes things.

But fat chance in that happening, we can’t even put together a state budget and haven’t for the past year.
I live in NC and owned the 2013 Tesla Model Y. Due to the bureaucratic policy by the dealers and state, I couldn't purchase the MY in NC at the time. I'm interested in R2 and see no reason I cannot have the same process to purchase or lease the R2.

Your reasoning is completely consistent with how many North Carolina EV buyers see it. What I describe here with my Tesla Model Y purchase is essentially the same workaround Rivian customers use today.

The key issue is that North Carolina law distinguishes between:
Direct manufacturer sales inside NC, and An out-of-state transaction delivered to an NC resident.

With Tesla, you effectively:
* Evaluated/test drove outside NC, DC at the time. Best car ever driven
* Executed the purchase digitally and handle all the necessary paperwork
* Took delivery arranged from outside the state, Fremont CA directly to my home
* Then registered the vehicle in NC.

That structure can still work for Rivian R2 buyers. In practice, many Rivian customers already. Since Knightdale is the service center, I expect they will have the the R2 available to test drive, may not be purchased though.
