I otherwise like the truck. If they added CarPlay, I'd get one. So, I monitor the forum for CarPlay threads, in the hope they change their minds.

It does happen:

Fair enough. FWIW, I use Android Auto in one of my cars, and in that car at least, AA does take over every pixel of the Infotainment screen. While I've never used Carplay, I'm pretty sure it would do the same in that car.

Perhaps. Entirely up the company that makes the car if that's the case or not.

I'm still waiting on a messaging app, the new AI integration is half baked using bluetooth. CarPlay would solve the messaging issue (group texts). You don't have to have the phone displayed in CarPlay.

Those of you not buying because of lack of CarPlay, have you driven in a Rivian? It’s not even close to a dealbreaker.
My previous car had CarPlay. My R1 doesn’t. And my next car will absolutely have CarPlay.

Because having gone from having it to not having it showed me how important it is.

Um…

Rivian has physical buttons for volume up and down. The defrost button on the screen is always available. He obviously is not going to remove those. Also everything voice currently does can be accessed on screen without voice. So I don’t understand your disagreement.

The "physical button" for volume is a scroll wheel only accessible to the driver.

A software button being on the screen in a fixed place still requires looking at the screen to verify your finger is going to activate it. (And it can't be activated while you're in reverse with the reverse camera showing!) My Mach-E had a physical defrost button that could be found without looking and activated by feel, and could be activated no matter what state the car is in (in reverse, cameras showing, etc.)

Safety controls (like defrost/defog, like hazard lights as required by law, like door lock/unlock) should *ALWAYS* be accessible, and preferably also be able to be found and actively purely by muscle memory and touch for when you NEED to keep your eyes on the road.

And "software button in a fixed place" can still move - Tesla has moved the defrost control (and even hidden it from "always visible!") multiple times over the years with various software updates.

The often repeated false argument from those who oppose pure EVs: the false premise that there are no physical burtons/controls at all in all pure EVs. While some EVs are more minimalist than others, we know what exists in ours, don’t we?

Anyway, I wish the AA/ACP topic would just die and for anyone at Rivian to not bother addressing it or give it air; just focus on executing their development roadmap. While near and dear to those who have become too reliant upon AA/ACP, their numbers are clearly not large enough to sink demand for Rivian’s cars; as much as they’d think themselves the majority. End the whining. Deal with it or buy something else. The matter and Rivian’s position couldn’t be more defined, 3+ years later.

Rivian is not going to add it. The data they get without CarPlay is a goldmine. I wish they would just be honest about it though.

it is in how they implement it. It does not need to take over every pixel. I know this was mentioned by Wassym before but that is not true

Every. Single. Time. I have rented a car with CarPlay, I can’t wait to get back in my Rivian. You do you, boo.

CarPlay is an option. If you don't want to use it, then don't use it. But it would be a great nice to have for everyone that does like it, and I am sorry but CarPlay does a lot of things better than what Rivian offers

That's a fairly silly limitation when you can just add it in several ways. I'm one of the must-have-CP people and since everything else about the truck was better than the other trucks, I fixed the problem myself. Add-on CP isn't as good as the best integrated CP, but actually better than some of the shitty ones like Toyota.

Part of the reason that we felt the Rivian was the only EV truck for us is the idiocy of so many damn buttons in the others. Less buttons = better. I can add CP, I can't remove the damn buttons and replace the shit software/display with something that works well.

Rolling it out as we speak. See the video I posted on the previous page.
That video says a whole lot about nothing. Those screenshots of CarPlay running within a Tesla could very well be screenshots from third-party tools that I’ve used three or four years ago. I’d wait for the official release and not listen to these Talking Heads on YouTube.

I don't think enough has been expressed about how carplay might cause difficulty in the automated driving space, especially once point-to-point happens.

Rivian will 100% absolutely put that stuff behind a paywall. And my ironic expectation here, is the people who are clammoring for Carplay, are also the same who want the car to do the driving.
