So let me get this straight... A Fiat on Steroids is going to take on anything off-road?

All this is is another Stelantis attempt at a mall crawler, that says it has credentials above and beyond what it can do.

I might be being a little cynical on it, but I dont think I really am.

The Slate truck can be configured to what you describe.... and for around the price you mention.
(It won't do any of the other stuff though... being only RWD and all)

We were in the same boat; was given a rental while our old Rogue was in for repairs. The Jeep was miserable to drive; uncomfortable. But some people just SWEAR by them...

I’ll admit that I’m spoiled. My last ten years I’ve been driving Rivian, Mercedes and Infiniti. I was really disappointed when I drove the Jeep because I like the way they look….. but the quality was really bad. I would not pay for one.

You'd have to be nuts or just plain out of touch with current events to purchase the Recon at this point. There's zero guarantee that Stellantis wouldn't do the same to the Recon that they did with the whole 4xe line if significant issues arose in the Recon. You could possibly be plopping down $65K on the Recon only to have Stellantis cancel the whole program 2 yrs from now (can you guess what that would do to your resale or trade in value ) instead of fixing it's problems... just like they did with the whole 4xe line. Stellantis is a complete POS corp! All Jeep owners wish they would just sell Jeep off to someone else and we'd never have to deal with Stellantis again.

Like all of their v1.0 efforts, it will be a flop and soon cancelled. Stellantis likely will not have solid EVs until v2.0, development of which is underway and with Factorial’s solid state cells. The reason this and the Charger are dated out of the gate is because it takes 6-10 years under the traditional car biz model to develop a new car. The world and tech standards changed before they could launch and they did not forecast and plan correctly. This is the most common mistake among all legacy brands… and one Ford is attempting to correct with reboot of their EV programs (but the Fathom’s launch date may still be too late).

100% and we're two-time Wrangler 4xe owners (and I admin the main 4xe forum).

Our '21 was super fun, no issues, when the lease came up, we were still in the same place, i.e., loved what the Wrangler offered for our 2nd vehicle, we're a great use case for the 20-25 mile electric range, the '24+ models had some nice upgrades: much bigger/faster display, side air bags, and for some trims (and even then it was sketchy) a very slick V2x type solution.

We picked up a '24 Rubicon, with the leather package, on lease, killer deal (~0.7% lease ratio) to replace the '21.

At the beach with boards, top off the Jeep, some absolutely wouldn't go back and do it different type experiences.

But the non-stop recalls, Stellantis handling of them - and as an admin of that site, I've read / experienced a lot of the fuckery second hand - we wouldn't touch another Stellantis product.

To be clear, ours hasn't had any issues, our 67C was handled in a few days, but give the issues with the first gen, how they ignored and continued sales, how poorly they responded ("Park away from structures or other vehicles and we'll eventually do, well, nothing really, just run a test and say it's good now, but could still have catastrophic failure in the future ..."), you couldn't pay me to take another. We're still sitting on two more recalls, both with fire related concerns.

Fortunately, with the '24, it was a 24 month lease that's over Sep 1 in a few weeks and we'll be returning And not replacing it (which was the intent with the R2, but going one car with our move to DTO, which is f-ing fantastic, and doesn't really demand a second vehicle).

We might have actually been a customer for the Recon - I mean when we needed to replace the Wrangler which as I mentioned above isn't a thing any longer - but no way I'd touch one at this point.

There's some dude on the Jeep forum (the general JL forum not our 4xe specific one) that keeps saying how great it is and "Show me another car that has American roots and removable doors" and he's real anti Rivian, hahaha, what a f-ing goon

Unless they find some poor schmuck who's been living under a rock and does zero research on the Stellantis EV debacle prior to purchase. You want to lease one to avoid the drastic drop in resale value that could very well happen after major flaws pop up and Stellantis cancels the Recon line vs. fixing the issue? Fine, but just realize it could end up in the shop more than your driveway after the guaranteed slew of recalls that are bound to happen. You might as well get familiar with the lemon Law attorneys in your area before you sign on the dotted line!

I consider myself extremely fortunate, my 2024 4xe Rubicon has never had a single issue in the almost two years I've owned it other then the electric cabin heater failing (which as you know is a device that will eventually fail on every single 4xe over time). As a matter of fact, I as planning on not getting the 68C battery recall/software update done because of how it's neutered the all-electric performance on the Wrangler 4xe's, but then the ECH went and I couldn't get it to go in to all-electric mode at all. And when I brought it in for repair, the dealer said they are obligated under federal law to perform the 68C recall when they have the vehicle in for the ECH repair.
