So I started this trend and since my post I went ahead and purchased a Tesla M3P. Hate to ask, but what is the best forum like this on but for Tesla. My new game plan is to purchase the R2 in 3 years once that would out all of the bugs if any.

Just look up Tesla Motors Club which is the biggest.

My game plan is to purchase in 2-3 years when (and if) the tri-motor comes out. I felt my M3P was faster everywhere than the R2 I test drove so I don't want to downgrade the speed. Also want those bugs worked out first :D

I dont think you will ever get a R2 that is faster than your M3P.

R2X with tri motor could easily be 2.9 seconds which would be comparable if not slightly faster than M3P
Thats the hope. I think the tri motor in the R1S tested even below 2.9s. I think if they run the same 850hp setup, it could be mid 2s for the R2X. Of course the off-road chops would also be a big bonus :D

Hopefully used with either fully purchased FSD or autopilot. I can't imagine buying a car in 2026 that forces you to pay $1200/year to have basic lane keeping.

This thread will likely flame on for the Tesla purchase, but honestly, that is not a bad idea to wait until the R2 is more sorted out and better incentives are available. The M3P is an outstanding vehicle for the price and the tech is stable with pretty ironed out reliability and Tesla has appointments within days (at least in my area). Congrats!

Question is - what color did you get it?

Tesla M3P is a great car; I own one currently. I just want more space and R2 is the first affordable, serious SUV I can buy so I'm getting it.

Do you do a lot of drag racing? Seriously, where are people really taking advantage of 0-60 times like these? Sure, it's fun for a while, but on a daily basis? One reason I sold my 997.2 911S was that it was frustrating/boring to drive on the street. It would exceed 100 mph very quickly and was still only in third gear and it has seven speeds (yes, a PDK, I know, 😝). I have way more fun driving my Miata.
The only reason I'm planning on buying the Launch/Performance R2 is that I'm a bit impatient, and want the towing package and a few other things vs the Premium. The extra hp is a bonus but I'll never use it (ok, maybe a few times, haha).

Same and I own an M3P. The speed just isn't needed unless you're going for 1/4 mile times at the track. The R2 is a better sports car than most sports cars lol.

You need to live in SoCal with all the BMW to Tesla converts that drive like idiots :p

In going from my BMW M3 to the TM3, I chose the TM3 AM AWD specifically because it had plenty of go juice and I drive around in "chill" mode 98% of the time. The only switch is if I'm next to an EV at the front of a light and I have to get over... so then it becomes a "get there first" or "assume we will be far ahead of those behind and just drop back"

The TM3P $8000 price delta was no where near worth it...

I've never driven a car and thought "hmm less power would be fine." But that is just me and from the looks of it, many others. It is not just the 0-60, but passing speed, highway merging, getting out of a bad situation, etc.

You'd be surprised how often i get up to triple digits where i live :D

California is huge and there are plenty of desert roads where there isn't a living soul. I've also tracked an M3P on the Nürburgring so i do appreciate a fast car. If the tri-motor loses 50 miles of range, it may force my hand to the Performance or another car. I want to see how the cars hold up too.

I understand, and agree that the extra power can get you out of trouble - or into it! I do appreciate it for passing and merging, but I just think at some point it's more than enough. (Maybe I wouldn't have said that thirty years ago.)
A few years ago I drove Genesis G70 3.3T with a measly 365 hp (of course it "only" weighed about 3850 lbs). I always had enough power to pass when I wanted to.
