iOS 27 Beta May Cause Issues with Digital Key (took delivery of my R2)

Took delivery of my R2 this morning! Only the second in the Tampa Bay region, apparently (a fact that really annoyed the Rivian tech when I mentioned I was coming from out of network). Everything is great...except iOS 27 100% wouldn't let me add a digital key for the Rivian. It would get about halfway through Pairing and conk out. Restarting and reseting things on either side of the equation did nothing.

Finally, I bit the bullet and restored back to iOS 26. Worked on the first try, no problem. So if you're testing iOS 27, drop back to iOS 26 before you take delivery!

I always wait until beta 6 or 7, because my credit union/banking apps don’t even start working until then after they’ve had time to adjust to the API changes.

Yeah, I’m not surprised that it didn’t work but I figured it could help someone else out since Rivian support didn’t recommend downgrading immediately as the solution.

Yep. I never put betas on my primary device. *EVER*. (And I've been testing beta OSes for decades.)

I always have a second device for beta testing.

It’s not even to the point of public betas yet. Putting a developer beta on your device at this moment is not advised.

It looks great! I can see why my son recommended the grey. I'm sticking with silver, I'm sticking with silver..... Or purple, or grey

How is the audio quality? I was only able to use iheartradio during the test drive and it sounded like a tin can

Oh that's interesting! I wonder if now that I've made the connection I could update to beta and have it still work! Depending on if Apple can reset my watch I might have to give it a shot!
And the audio is great! Was just blasting Beastie Boys on the way to the mall and it sounded solid on the Rock EQ.
Only thing I don't like so far is that you have to set the Regen level every trip.

Being a glutton for punishment (and a chaser of all things new) I decided to try again with the iOS 27 Public Beta that just dropped. It works!
So my final rec is — if you can, just wait a couple months until iOS 27 is released, there should be no problem. If you can't wait, then take delivery and pair your R2 before you upgrade to the beta. And even then? Don't use the Dev beta, use the public beta, as it will be a bit more stable (but still not perfect!).

Thanks for the update! I'm on Dev Beta 3 (which is EXACTLY the same as public beta 1, by the way) so good to have this data point. Should be a non-issue by the time our number (August-September window) is called.

Update to the update! Rivian randomly decided last night that my phone was a whole new device (even though the digital keys on it still worked). A hard phone reboot cleared things up. Just in case anyone runs into similar issues while testing.
