No. An esker is a distinct ridge of rock and gravel. The esker is formed from material that is gathered in a glacial river, a river that runs on or through the glacier. Once glacier melts the material is deposited in a ridge that followed the path the glacial river once held. They are more often associated with continental glaciers than alpine glaciers.

They are a really cool feature to see from above as they follow the morphology of a stream course but are elevated instead of a depression.

I have not seen too many auroras in my lifetime, but the a dozen or so that I have seen have all been mostly green, not purple.

I should also comment that it's hard to write articles like this one without sounding unbearably pretentious. Reviews of hi end stereo equipment, Chardonnays, and fashion designer's seasonal collections are ripe for parody, except it's difficult to distinguish between the actual review and the parody.

But what makes it even funnier is to realize the whole point of this article is to align and reinforce the brand association with nature, and position the product in a sophisticated luxury space and use that to appeal to its target customers.

If their target customers were engineering nerds, the article would be ab out how many windings are in their clever electric motors. For others, the article would be about how their materials are recycled and use environmentally-friendly, bio-degradable products, etc. -- oh wait....

I spent 30 years in the heart of Alaska, so I have certainly seen my fair share of the northern lights, and can say that purple is one of the rarest colors for the aurora, but it does happen on occasion. The much more common green aurora's occur when solar particles collide with oxygen. Purple and/or blue auroras occur when when these particles interact with nitrogen molecules deeper in the atmosphere.

Or Compass Yellow, Dune, Limestone.

My guess is that Red Canyon gets replaced by Pacific Sunset that we saw on R3 concept mirror caps.

I thought the same thing, but then I went back and looked at my pictures of the aurora borealis that I took a few years ago. There are definitely green ones (see below), but then it morphed into pinkish-purple rays with green at the bottom. It depends on how the oxygen and nitrogen react to the charged particles colliding with atmospheric atoms, or some such explanation.

Anyway, it was so beautiful. I stared at it for hours. I had the privilege of seeing this in Central Ohio, which is very rare. It was because of a particularly strong solar storm. I took lots of pictures. Here are a few of the better ones around the mall and surrounding condo and apartment complexes. Surprisingly it had less light pollution than other areas.

That makes sense since they used the blue-green of the R3X on the R2. If I remember correctly Pacific Sunset was a flatter orange. At least from a distance. Not much metallic flake. It was a really small surface area though. I’d love to see it regardless. We need at least one warm color!

Yep, more orange vs. Red Canyon. I would have personally preferred a darker/ruby red.

Regardless of all the desirable colors discussed here, even if they all materialize I'll probably end up w/ white.

I’ve heard it described as a reverse riverbed. I think in Alaska they flattened the tops of their eskers and built roads on top of them! We have one esker left in Ohio that I know of, but it’s covered in grass.

On a related note, one cool thing we have in Ohio (on Kelley Island) are these glacial grooves. I need to get up there and see those in person.

Closer to me are ravines that have been carved out by glaciers. One of them has these unique geodes that formed over millions of years. We also have so many green spaces and parks.

And everyone thinks that Ohio is perfectly flat and covered in corn fields, when that’s clearly Iowa.
