I was able to order the extender today from the gear shop. The gear shop notified me that it was available too. Easy process.
Jealous!

I got the notification as well, but as soon as I could get to my computer it was:

Rivian R1T R1S Rivian Partners with EV Sportline to Offer R1T Bed Extender Through Official Gear Shop 1784044570425-j4

Ironically, I was just out picking up a load of scrap metal that I could've used this for.

If I had to guess, @EV Sportline is selling these just as fast as they can make them. Which hopefully is a good thing, for them. 😄

-----------------------

Edit: Got it! I've literally kept a tab open and just F5'd it periodically while working on other things, and it came back available again. 😊

Are folks that are using the extenders also buying tailgate pads? I don’t bike much, but that tailgate exterior facing downward looks to be a nice target for debris to kick up against.

I drive with my tailgate down pretty regularly. Put this PPF on the day after getting my truck:

Could always do the whole tailgate if you're concerned?

Edit: I should also add mine has this thing below the tailgate, which presumably offers some additional protection from things like you're describing:

Mine arrived on Friday. Super-excited to get it installed. Mind if I ask some dumb (probably obvious) questions? @EV Sportline (or anyone else)

(1) The installation video did not mention anything about the bars being telescoping. The smaller center ones slide inside the larger curved ones. Assemble it too wide, and it won't fit between the sides of the bed. Assemble it too tight, and it's not wide enough. Case in point:

I just kind of spitballed it at 12" and held things together with clamps while I put the screws in. Is there a recommended way to adjust and set the width?

(2) I realize these are probably semi-generic parts adapted from multiple kits, but the cradle that's stamped "L" going on the right (passenger) side is mildly amusing. Just calling that out for anyone who might come after me (screenshot from install video).

(3) Is there any torque specification for the large bolts below the D-rings? Mine felt relatively loose coming out so I didn't want to over-tighten them going back in. Thanks for including the proper size socket.

No pictures of your cats helping you with a task that requires no cats?! I’m disappointed.

In our instruction guide and video, we recommend that you preassemble the cage with both the slip fit aluminum bars as well as the plastic uprights. When you preassemble, leave the screws loose enough that the width of the cage can still be adjusted but tension them enough so that the cage will hold its shape. After installing the mounting brackets simply adjust (by pushing or pulling) the width of the cage until the pivot posts drop into their cradles.

By the way, the recommended torque on that bolt is 45nm.

I am clearly too dumb to understand that. I was thinking there was like, actual measurements or something. Oh well, I got it. Just worth mentioning again since the video doesn't say anything about the smaller center bars telescoping (sliding inside the longer, curved bars).

To the layperson watching the video, it makes it look like you just push them into the plastic vertical posts until they stop.

Regardless, I got it. Am definitely looking forward to using this. Hope this discussion helps others in the future. 😊

I also wasn't sure if these holes (in the center bars) had any relevance. I put them facing down. Seemed like the more logical direction (e.g., so water could drain out if any got in there):

Yes, Those holes are part of the manufacturing process and orientation is not critical during assembly.

Maybe I’m inept but I failed to install this today. I couldn’t get the telescopic pieces to slide over each other enough so it was too wide for the bed. It seems pretty hopeless to get it any tighter together.

@BanditTA At one point with mine I was tempted to break out the rubber mallet. But I persisted, and wiggled and jiggled until they slid into place. I have carpet in part of my garage so it helped to flip the extender around and push against the carpet.

Sounds like @EV Sportline is going to get you sorted. If I could do it, am sure you can. 👍

Maybe get some cats to help. 😻😹
