They didn't lie; they did decide to use and market the car using the EPA cycle, which they knew would result in a higher range than the cycle used by the leading sales model in the segment. Justify that however you want.
And what car brand does not use EPA-certified numbers in their marketing??

And what car brand does not use EPA-certified numbers in their marketing??
They all do, but some prefer picking the cycle that matches more to real-world expectations (Tesla recently) or even go so far as to be conservative and report lower range to make sure owners are satisfied (Porsche).
