My 1st Mile Test Drive

I had the pleasure of doing a test drive of the new Rivian R1T electric pick up truck on the Test Track at their plant in Bloomington IL. I have the SUV on order. Never met so many nice people with such a passion for their product. It did not disappoint! On the test track we were able to go from zero to 60 mph in 3 seconds (it takes your breath away) and we rode over boulders, a dry creek bed and up and down steep hills. Amazing. All fun and a great day!

Just thought of this when looking at your nice pictures. I wonder how long it will take someone to open the rear door from the inside and hit it on the camp kitchen? I know that is something my kids would do. I am sure that would leave a really nice ding on the door! Maybe there is a feature that does not allow that door to be open when the camp kitchen is out?

I keep seeing people say that that they are concerned about that but I don't understand why. It would be pretty obvious the kitchen is there you would also have to enter through the other door and climb over to open that door. lastly even if a kid was to do that its close to the door so they wouldn't get enough momentum to actually do anything it would just stop when you try to open the door. My opinion is this is just another thing we are really over analyzing because we don't have the truck in front of us.

The usual child lock. Put that on when the camp kitchen is in use.

I do not disagree at all. I just know that all those suggestions are accurate, but it takes one time to forget to put child locks on to put a ding in your 80K truck. Everyone is talking about entertainment, I am thinking....you are camping, someone is sitting in the cab watching Netflix, gets out that side, oops! Seems like an easy thing to do. Non issue for me as I have the R1S ordered.

In order to not derail your thread, nice pics of the wheels. Both rims are really nice looking, makes the decision difficult!

Get in the habit of turning the child lock on. It would be nice if it was automatic but I haven't heard anything about that.

Whoa is that actually a compass yellow + forest edge build? Team yellow has been super curious about that combo! Did you get any more pics with both interior and exterior in the same shot (to determine how they look together)?

IIRC it is automatic. Im certain that I read somewhere that one of the designers said that you could not open the adjacent door when the kitchen was pulled out.

There does not seem to be an interlock between the gear tunnel and passenger door. If there was, you would not be able to pen the door with the gear shuttle pulled out, without the kitchen on it.

If the WAF for yellow was higher, I’d be considering that combo. The more I see it the better it is.

Although a Rivian-sized vehicle in yellow is a LOT of yellow

I was at the FM event on Sunday and my test drive was in a Compass Yellow/Forest Green. Absolutely beautiful.

There does not seem to be an interlock between the gear tunnel and passenger door. If there was, you would not be able to pen the door with the gear shuttle pulled out, without the kitchen on it.

It's entirely possible that that is the case (no door with shuttle out regardless of kitchen). It's also possible that they're utilizing the side camera or some other sensor embedded somewhere.
