Has anyone successfully removed the mirror housing and tapped into 12V power on rear view mirror on 2026 R1S Gen 2? I tried to follow the steps from the other members but was not successful. I believe the housing on my car was secured differently making it hard to remove. I feel that I will break it if I force it more. Another option is to run a cable to OBD2 port. This is for my radar detector

Don't have a gen 2 so not sure. But, AFAIK, housing mounting hasn't changed. It's always been a PITA. Leaving it the sun before attempting supposedly help.

Unsung is right, it’s murderously difficult to remove the mirror housing. And God help you if you accidentally knock off the mirror. It is easier to solve a Rubiks cube in five seconds than it is to reattach a Rivian review mirror.

You are likely doing the right things, but it’s just sort of terrifying how hard you have to pull down on the mirror housing. My best advice is to follow other’s advice on this. When I did it, I remember finding good guidance here on the forum as well as on YouTube.

Hang in there!

@aragon_arthur - The mirror cover hasn't changed at all on the R1. I did this for the third time on my brand new R1S Quad two weeks ago. Twice before were on two previous R1Ts. First time, I yanked too hard and took down the mirror as well but it wasn't hard to put it back on with a quarter turn. Second and third time I knew where to place my plastic interior pry tool for easier removal. Pictures of the back cover are here
Rivian R1T R1S Mirror tap on 2026 R1S Gen 2 for radar detector mirror cover 1

I took out the small cover first, then placed my 90 degree pry tool under the top part of the main cover where the headliner is and it popped out easily. Use your hand to brace against the cover while removing the lower part with the tool, then do the other side. Don't worry, you won't break the cover or the mirror with force. The rest just follow direction on the radar install thread and you're good to go.

I love this community already. I will try again and follow your steps/suggestions. Where do I start pulling the small cover, top (closer to the headliner)?
I’m assuming you tap power from the rear view mirror, does your radar detector turns off after few minutes when you lock the car or when it goes to sleep?
Lastly, do you have the part number of the mirror housing? I’d like to get a new one because I’m going to drill a hole for the radar’s bracket and will keep the original when my lease is up.

For the small cover, just stick a finger into the hole and pull. If you have big finger, put a plastic pry tool or a knife edge to the seam, it's easily pop off. Yes, the radar detector switches off after a few minutes. I don't have the part number for the cover but you can see it stamped in the back after removal. You probably won't need to buy a new cover. Just plug the hole with a plastic plug, no one would notice 😁

It's probably a good idea to find an appropriate mirror mount for your detector instead of drilling. I taped mine to the windshield.

Yeah, I can see from the picture the tabs on the lower portion are much easier to detach. I have an old mount from Amazon that I can use to attach to the rear view mirror shaft. It’s tight but it will work. Thank you!

Yes, the Mirrortap worked for my ā€˜26 Gen 2 with Escort Redline 360 and yes it powers down when the car sleeps. I had a local car stereo shop install mine for me so I cannot personally speak to the difficulty of removing the cover. I provided the link to the post here showing which wires to tap.
