Am I the only one who thinks anything less than 400mi of range is legacy at this point?

What I find odd is the anger that some people seem to express towards those who want/need a larger pack and more range.
Show me where you find that anger???

Vehicles in general are getting more expensive, including ICE as well, which has nothing to do with range or pack size, especially as price per kWh has dropped over time. You'll have to excuse me for not following your convoluted "logic".
This is false. Never been true. The bigger the pack size, the more expensive the cost. Simple fact.

Oh, I agree! I suspect in the next 5-8 years, battery and charging technology will improve drastically.

Explain how battery pack size impacts the price of ICE vehicles...
With your quotes, LOL, that's not anger. Exaggeration is an understatement here.

Explain? I don't have to explain how battery pack size impact the price of ICE because we were not talking about ICE. Reread your statement, please.

Indeed:
You left out the other part of the statement, LOL! Go back and reread again, please.

FYI, ICE does not have battery pack , does it?

No, but you're probably in the minority.

What I find odd is the anger that some people seem to express towards those who want/need a larger pack and more range. I'm perfectly fine with anyone who is happy with a smaller pack and less range. My first EV was a conversion I did myself, it had about 45 miles of range in good conditions and was my daily driver for over 10 years. Of course I still had an ICE as a second vehicle for longer trips.

(I guess technically my firs EV was my avatar which had about 6 miles of range with lead acid, now upgraded to lithium)
Curious where all these angry posts are. I think your stated needs for a huge pack are very much in the minority and you're misinterpreting any pushback as hostility/anger. Unfortunately, if your minority group doesn't present a large enough addressable market for Rivian then you aren't going to see a rush to meet those needs.

And sure, who wouldn't love some extra range but it's always going to come at a price and most people don't want to waste money for edge cases.

I quoted 2 posts as examples, but a 400 mile pack is not "huge" compared to the 345 mile pack the R2 is coming with.
Question: Assuming no cost penalty, if all EV's came with say 500 miles of range do you think more people would buy them? In all my years of EV driving I know the main reason people say they won't buy one and it's the range.

Sorry I thought you were pushing for an even larger pack. You can already get a 400 mile Rivian…just have to pay more. Assuming no cost penalty for a larger pack is a pointless exercise.

I agree with you that range can be a big deterrent to prospective adopters, but that can mostly be solved through better education.

There is more to it than the posted range. Based on the battery technology some recommend to not charge above 70% unless you are going on an immediate trip. So is it immediate enough if I charge to 100% by 6 am but don’t leave until 10? Then if it’s a long trip am I willing to accept the exceptionally slowed charge rate between 80 and 100% or do I move on so as not to waste time which means now I am at 80% of the 400 miles? Other battery technology wants you to charge to 100% but which one has worse performance in extremely cold climates. You will only get the 400 miles under ideal conditions which differs depending on the battery technology you selected. Bottom line is I have not seen a manufacturer sort all of this out for the consumer so we can make informed decisions. Finally while not arrange discussion some vehicles have much lower efficiencies so while it is loaded with huge heavy battery packs to get the 400 mile range it costs more $$$ to charge that huge pack vs perhaps a vehicle with a 300 mile range with 1/2 the battery density so it costs way less to charge to get that 300 miles. I am a retired engineer but also a realist

My current ICE car (2024 Bronco) has less range (~300 miles) than my 2026 R1T Tri, so I have plenty of range. I take trips now, somethimes towing, and usually need to stop for a nature break way before I need to charge. Here in western WA, there are plenty of chargers for road trips, and home charging takes care of my daily. I say all this because range anxiety is way overblown IMO. Now, having quicker charging would be welcome. IMHO, this and cold weather range reduction are the two areas that would help. This R1T is our first EV, and after experiencing this, it will not be our last.
