It's cool that they are adding this, but going to suck with all the posts on here whining about SOH especially if the numbers keep changing. Maybe they should hide it in a menu so the average person can't find it easily.
My thoughts exactly. And made me think of all those posts about the gauge-view and energy screens from those who don't know what they're looking at, become indignant and refuse enlightenment.

I suspect this is already baked in but only accessible to service techs. As far as I'm aware, there's been no discussion of rolling this out to the public in a software update. Could be wrong, or could change.

It's there and been there in the RiDE menu. One just have to do some math to arrive at %. And when RiDE access info was shared online, I recall some people reaching for the pitch fork thinking their newish cars had degradation already.

Yup - and so great to see it back in a way we can access again. The cynic in me think's this is likley as R2 will have less 'overhead' provided than R1 does - and so people will start to see SoH impact range when at `100%` charge like most other EVs within a couple of years. I'm not aware of any other EV that offered as much buffer between nominal gross and rated capacity that Rivian has with the R1s.

Our Gen1 Large still provides the same addressable capacity today as it did 25K miles ago (@70f) - thats AMAZING - and I do NOT expect to see a SoH that reflects that. My warranty says I should see more or equal to 70% of the marketed capacity at 8 Years/150K miles (ie 91.7kWh) - long as it does that (and is kinda balanced) the SoH is largely irrelevant. :)

Can you sue for something that’s giving you paranoia.
Yep, people sue for emotional damages all the time. Generally the bar is very high, frequently you need to prove intent to harm, or that whatever damaged your mental state was untrue. It is very messy, and not likely something you would win for “I don’t like the numbers my truck is showing”, but it could be modestly expensive for Rivian to defend against a suit that basically has no merit and will only win if they are inattentive on the defense.

Yeah haha that is definitely me. I know myself well enough to just not look at it

More pain than it is worth. So many people will start complaining 'My battery is already at 98%' 'Why aren't I getting what they sold me' blah blah

Revealing the SoH is definitely opening a can of worms.

SoH is available via a OBDII scanner from the Ford Mach-e. I tracked mine from when I purchased the car to when I traded it in for the R1T.

It goes up and down somewhat randomly, with a little sagging in the winter. It is fun to watch until it keeps dropping and you don't know why. Losing over 10% of my battery capacity in 3 years did not make me a happy camper.

Rivian R1T R1S Battery pack SOH state of health data is coming in software update! (SOH, distance since last updated, max potential charge rate, current charge rate) 1775522864075-nv

There are so, so many posts on the Mach-e forum regarding SoH. People get very worked up about it, and it can create additional headaches for the service department.

I am glad Rivian is finally revealing it, but watch out for all the posts about it when it happens.

Anyone who complains about their SOH should first be willing to make an accurate assessment of their charging habits. How often do they go below 20%, how often do they charge above 80%, how often they DCFC versus L2, etc. But yeah, I echo the thoughts of several who have already posted here, it is going to be a shit show of complainers. I welcome the additional information though, as I am a junkie for details and knowledge.
