Bummer that the service rep initially offered a new vehicle and they backtracked on that, but sounds like the owner had a 2023 quad motor that was probably worth about $50k (give or take based on mileage) and is upset he's not getting a brand new $120k quad motor as replacement. Wishful thinking...

sounds like nobody was hurt. There’s a number of Corvette C8 owners that have had their cars damaged by dealers when the cars have fallen off a lift. These type accidents are far more common then one would think. two post lifts require the proper adjustment of the arms, get it wrong and the vehicle is off balance, doesn’t take much to tip it.

This sucks, but isn't an issue unique to Rivian. Cars fall off the lift all the time. Just like any other accident, you're going to get the value your car is worth totalled, which might not be replacement value. I don't see this as anything other than an entry in the "shit happens" column.

I wouldn't be happy if this were my car, but I'd expect a replacement with a similar car to the one I had, not one 3 years newer and a greater initial expense, that's wishful thinking.

Looks like your friend also posted the story here... I wonder why the reason to double-up on this tale?

This person and their friends are on a full-out smear campaign against Rivian right now. Posting this same story multiple times across all social media, forums, and even sending to news agencies. They really want that free brand new replacement, despite the damaged vehicle being 3 years old.

To be fair, I didn't see any mention of the replacement being a new Quad. He had a dual motor, and only mentored a replacement, not a significant upgrade.

Fair. I saw 2023 so assumed quad and wasn’t going to spend anymore time researching this garbage. So he was looking for an $80k replacement to what was probably a $40k used truck.

Considering my friend babied his truck and took meticulous care of it, trusted Rivian when he took HIS truck to THEIR Service Center, THEY effed it up, and then expect him to be happy with a settlement amounting to a fraction of what he paid for it (after initially offering him a new truck as a replacement) is not “wishful thinking”; I’d call it a broken promise.

Ahh I see now. The bolded text and caps letters have changed my mind. Your "friend" deserves TWO NEW trucks. One for him and one for you. Did the service rep do a pinky promise when he offered the new truck? If so, that's really messed up and he should also get an ALSO e-bike!

They messed up so they should replace or compensate for the value of the truck. Not a new truck worth $20-40k more. Just because an ill informed advisor said that, you and your friend think they should do that now?

To be fair, I would expect some kind gestures on top of making me whole, but getting a brand new truck? Come on now…

I honestly don’t have a dog in this fight; I’m just an 8-year Tesla owner with a reservation for an R2. I do, however, sympathize with a friend who has been seriously inconvenienced by this. He’s not a litigious person trying to prey upon a company he’s been wronged by, but rather, someone trying to make sense out of all this.

Excuse the bold text in the original reply. It was unintentional. The “all caps” were to emphasize a point. The reason for my original post was to try and show how Rivian reacted to a mistake they made. Not knowing me or my friend, you couldn’t be any further wrong in your assumption about either of us.

but in posting this, you must think that compensation of the value of the truck and some extra to cover the inconvenience is not sufficient? Why do you feel he should get a brand new truck to replace the current one?

if it’s simply based on a incorrect statement made by an advisor, do you really agree that any mistake in statements made have to be followed through, even if it’s quite unreasonable? Why can’t Rivian make him whole in a reasonable way?

I stated in the other thread he created, if they are using their insurance to write it off and it’s below what he owes, technically they don’t have to do anything, but maybe push them to agree to cover the balance of the loan, and maybe some gear shop points to help buy some goodies for his next Rivian.
