These "customer" deliveries are likely for demo drives at service centers and spaces in addition to being employee vehicles. Those two numbers likely play into the eventual June deliveries to external customers.

So funny to see all the comments on this, although I suppose I'm just as guilty. In any event I would say it is pretty on-brand for the CEO of a company focused on adventure messaging associated with its products to actually dress in attire that would also fit that positioning. Not that it seems to be a studied intent to do so, just more of the casual style he seems to prefer wearing. Pretty sure he didn't just walk in after a spell of lumberjacking in those shoes either.

My guess is that they decided late in the game to ditch the feature, and said "no harm, no foul" at leaving the notch.

The venting side windows may well have been a component that could have become a supply bottleneck for Rivian's rapid ramp plans, had they gone ahead with it at this time, since it seemed to be a feature that was introduced quite late. Not worth entertaining that kind of avoidable risk. It might make a reappearance in a future model year though.

These are absolutely employee vehicles. We have yet to see any R2 vehicles on the road that do not have manufacturer plates. Looks like we finally will now.

Although May the 4th would be a cool date to announce deliveries for real customer based on the Star Wars wraps we saw, I doubt that will happen. They are delivering first to employees for a reason. They need time to have them in the wild, identify issues and make any adjustments or corrections to production.

Probably will be June before real customer deliveries like they’ve planned.

And just like during the R1 rollout, the employee customers will be under NDA's so don't expect anything other then "the seats are the best I've ever sat in" type stuff out of these company men/women.
