Another confirmation from a test engineer at Rivian (my neighbor). As of the Rev. 2 test vehicles they have been testing, the R1 crossbars do not fit the mounting pattern and will not physically go on. They tried them, thinking they would fit and it was a no go. He has no clue why they would make them different (he tests different veh systems), but he at least verified that they wouldn't work.
Thanks for confirming. Were Rev 2 test vehicles the last preproduction ones (prior to the production ones that just rolled off the line this week)?

He's calling REV 2 test vehicles the camo wrapped vehicles that were being tested out in public for hot / cold climate testing. He just left yesterday to help bring back some test vehicles, that he hopes will be converted to employee take home vehicles... Besides testing, he really hasn't had very many oportunities to drive the new R2's.

There's a new cargo crossbar coming for R2 specifically designed by Yakima!

I was going to say it sounds like they're going for more aftermarket compatibility rather than OEM customization.

It looks like the R1 crossbars attachment point will attach to that mount. However the R2 is about 4 inches narrower than the R1S and the R1 crossbar is too long to fit between the R2 mounting points.
There is way more that 4 inches of the middle portion of the telescopic crossbars showing on my R1T, so much so I have a whole additional bike rack clamped on that part of of the crossbars.

LOL what? Where did you find this made up bullshit? Anyway, the R2 mount doesn't specifically appear incompatible. I think it's impossible to say from the photo.
Apple has had multiple lawsuits, DoJ investigations, and legal judgements made against their practices, most notably by the European Union and Brazil. In all cases, internal documents clearly demonstrated an established and ongoing practice of arbritary sunsetting of adapters/etc to introduce a new source of revenue through forced updating to new adapters, with no demonstrable benefit to the customer.

"Summary of Legal Rationale
Courts and regulatory bodies, particularly in Brazil and the EU, have found that Apple's practices of (1) changing connectors and (2) removing chargers (the "no-charger" policy) were, in effect, abusive, anticompetitive, and anti-consumer practices designed to increase revenue."

Here's visual confirmation why R1 crossbars don't fit the R2 - the crossbar mounts are different as you can see (posted by @Hilbe)

R2 mount on the left and R1 mount on the right.

@wnealisr226 also confirmed with Rivian employee at the Chicago R2 Block Party event that R1 and R2 crossbars are not compatible:

"I also asked if the R1 crossbars (since they are currently on sale in the Gear Shop) would fit on the R2 and was told no, they would not." (link to his post)
Further confirmation from @Killer95Stang:

Per Yakima, The R1 and R2 bars ARE NOT compatible. You have R1 - you will need R1 bars, when you get your R2 - you will need R2 bars.

Doug Demuro said in his video they were compatible. I’d assume he got this information from Rivian.
He is incorrect - they are not compatible per Yakima and Rivian.

I was hoping they would be. Damn. Oh well, adding my cross bars to the for sale list.
