My interpretation, based on this latest LE update from Rivian:

COLOR
Esker Silver is the standard color. Other colors will be paid upgrades.
Launch Green will only be available in the launch edition (LE).
Borealis will be available in 2027, and not part of the LE.
(Since it is not mentioned at all in the LE update)

INTERIOR
Both the dark and light interiors will be available in the LE as a choice.
No upcharge. Happy about this.
Dark will be available first and light later.

WHEELS / TIRES
No mention in the update on these options.
Unclear if the options are choices or paid upgrades,

These are the items I am most interested in.

With the R1, Rivian provided updated delivery estimates every couple of months. If you changed anything with your configuration, you would have to wait until the next time they updated everyone's estimates to see how the new configuration affected your wait time.
Back then, a lot of people actually saw an exact match in the R1 shop (inventory) and snagged it before their custom configuration being built. I was one of them.

Yeah, I remember when the shop opened and folks were able to find their desired configs themselves. Initially though there was just guide contacts. There wasn't a "shop" when I chose a truck in early June 22. Once I settled on a color I gave my guide two wheel choices and she found an option of each, one an LE and one an Adventure. I chose the LE on ATs. Gonna be interesting to see if R2 shows up immediately in online inventory.

Where did I miss the light interior is free?
Not sure where they got that information but seeing as employees had to pay for every color (aside from Esker Silver) and wheel config, I imagine the white interior will be an additional cost.

This is just my interpretation of the wording in the recent email update on the LE:

“On the inside, customers can choose between two all-new premium interiors:”

Maybe I am just being hopeful, but if both colors are a “premium interior” choice, why would one color vs another cost more?

On the R1 Quad, the Ocean Coast interior is $2500 and Slate Sky is $3000

'Premium' doesn't always equal 'cost extra'. It's labeled as such since it's nicer than the standard interior (which will come with the Standard Trim of R2 sometime next year).

But unfortunately it will likely cost more just like paints. Volvo with their new EX60 (via Canadian configurator) is NOT charging extra for any of their seven colors nor charging extra for any of their three interior colors. That certainly closes any potential price gap.
Plus it comes with 20” wheels and you pay extra for 21” - wished Rivian did it that way round too.

R2 is smaller than R1S so the prices should be cheaper than the upgrade costs in R1S. They're also no longer targeting the premium market so they can't command premium price points. I would imagine they'll mirror Tesla's upgrade costs.

Something on the order of $2k for paint, $2k for wheels, and $1k for interior.

You may well be right and if someone wants a color other than silver (likely), a different interior color (possibly) and 20” wheel due to tire availability then you are looking at $4-5k which means a Premium R2 would be pretty much the same price as an EX60 P10 which has the same equipment (heater/cooled seat, glass roof etc) and a better stereo (Bose branded 2 speaker system), comparable range and speed and faster charging. That is some competition so Rivian need to be reasonable with option prices especially since R2 has been designed to be profitable from the get go.

Which is why I'm sticking with stock wheels and only paying for the forest green paint upcharge. Likely black interior too but need to see more of the coastal cloud interior (e.g. in person). If the coastal cloud is more greyish than white I may splurge depending on cost. I'm going to wait for the premium trim late this year myself and get the 20" wheels stock.

What Rivian really has going for them is a BOXY SUV. GIve the people what they want! Basically a Lexus GX550 type.

And on the Gen 2 Launch Quads Slate Sky and Storm Blue, which would cost $6000 I think, were included at no additional cost. Same with Launch Green. All Terrain package was a free option, too.

I guess some, such as myself, were hoping there would be similarly free options on R2 Launch Editions, but it doesn't sound like that's the case.

That was my thinKing. The LE comes with a premium interior, dark or light.

Based on the fact that employees who are buying the launch edition R2 had to pay for everything except for Esker Silver, I am not holding out hope.
