I've been able to remotely condition the cabin and turn on the climate controls from my Android Rivian app (see teal circle in screenshot below). However, my Rivian always kills the climate controls after about 30 minutes.

In the app below the temperature adjustments, there's a big "Hold" button (see red circle in screenshot), which I assume allows you to set how long to keep the climate controls on beyond the default 30 minutes once remotely enabled. But no matter what duration I set, when I turn it on remotely, it turns off after about 30 minutes.

Am I using it correctly, or is something broken? Thanks.

What if you just want to turn it off? How to check the climate control from the phone to see that it is off. Yesterday, I left the truck parked and later feared the AC was running but did not know how to turn it off. The circled fan blade icon is either dark. or light, which is engauged?

If the circled buttons are not dark, it is not on. I just figured out how the “Hold” feature is supposed to work recently. 😔

Just a short press (or tap) of the button. It takes time to react to/execute your button press but a tap is really all it takes to turn it on. I just figured this out myself.

I think an on off button would be nice. Or the on/off/auto options. like a home thermostat. The darknes or lightness are ambigous to me. The temp setting, say 70 degrees, if the sun made the cab 75, would the AC come on? same setting, would the heating come on? My concern is battery use and comming back to a low battery after a day being parked, like in an airport parking lot.

I don’t know about your apps, but in mine I get a confirmation that the hold feature is activated (by pressing the hold button after turning it on).

So then after the hold is off, the heat/cooling is off? The "hold" means to operate not hold off. Like the phrase, "Hold on" which means to stop. I apologize for the ambiguity of the english used, but I guess english can be confusing. My statement is confusing so my point is made.

Greg, trying to understand your concern better so I can maybe explain. Is your worry that with a temperature set that the car will automatically try to keep that temp without you taking any action?

Unless you turn on the climate, and it will show a little running fan not just change the color, the setting won’t do anything.

In order to turn it on you have to either manually do it or have an active schedule in the app. Otherwise it is just letting you know what the setting would be if you turned it on. Same goes for the heated/vented seats and heated steering wheel.

Even if you were to turn it on, but did not enable hold, as stated by OP, it turns off after a short period of time (never timed it but 30 minutes sounds right).

If you did turn on the ‘hold’, then once the timer is up the HVAC turns off and it goes back to whatever normal settings you have (auto vent and/or schedule).

There is an auto vent option at the bottom of the climate page.

from my understanding this will run the fan, and possibly the AC, when temperatures hit some high threshold.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Mallkid, I think part of my issue is, i did not turn it on. The AC was running after I left the vehicle and i did not even know this option existed. !, my worry is my battery draining with me not knowing it. Not knowing it turned off in 30 min. Or what turned off. I think rivian has made too many options that are not common and emerging beyond reason.

Ok, it's working somewhat* properly now that I force-closed the app and restarted it.

*It's still acting a bit buggy though. For example, if I hit the "Hold" button, it now engages climate control (showing the circle fan icon engaged and spinning) and the hold button timer goes on count down; this is now as expected. However, if I then hit the spinning circle fan icon to deactivate the climate controls, the "Hold" button still shows engaged (with the timer still counting down) even though the circular fan icon is no longer engaged nor spinning. It appears in this conflicted mode, the climate control is still active as per the "Hold" button indicator (but not as indicated by the circular spinning fan button indicator).

I did a little test. I turned on the hvac and got out of the car and tried a few things. Left the door open with phone in truck and not in truck. Closed the door same for the phone. Locked the doors, phone was with me to lock the doors.
The only time the hvac turned off was when I locked the doors. My guess is they programmed it to not turn off if there is a chance you will return to the car shortly (e.g., getting the mail). But locking it turned it off immediately. I don’t know how long it takes to turn off if you don’t lock your doors. I didn’t want to spend the time doing that and I lock my doors all the time anyway, even at home.

When you say “closed the door” or “left it open, do you mean fully shut and not? Without testing and what I do is leave the door not fully shut for both A/C and/or keep the music playing when i am not sitting inside the car.

Yes. The door was all the way or at least mostly open and then fully shut. I only waited about a minute in all cases. My intent was to check if the locking of the door forced the hvac to shut off, which it does. My guess is that if you fully shut the door and it doesn’t lock then it will time out after some period.
