It is. Our labor prices are higher than other countries. To be competitive we need to be more productive. Automation allows us to be more competitive. With more productivity it’s possible (but not guaranteed) to have higher wages.
Also by replacing repetitive tasks with robots you reduce RSI and...
I asked at autonomy day. It depends on what hardware you have. With the 3rd gen compute much of it will run locally. On 1st gen it’s probably all remote only ;-( Not sure about Gen 2 and the pre-LiDAR R2s.
They have done it for me. Although I’m now having it done at America’s tire where I got the replacement tires and rotation is included.
My prime reason is that I don’t want to find out 3 years later the spare tire is flat. Because it is only looked at when there is another flat.
Well when I started there were no unhappy owners, just unhappy non-owners. Matter of fact there were no owners at all.
p.s: no there were no dinosaurs left, except in La Brea.
I just had mine done last week at that SC. The estimated 48-72 hours and then got it done the same day. I think they are purposely under promising and over delivering.
They were explicit about this in the preso. Every Gen 3 R2 will be a ground truth vehicle. I don’t think this is the primary reason. They think vision + radar can handle 99% of the scenarios and 99% is not enough. They said this in the press.
One thing that was stressed and was pretty impressive was how invisible the Lidar is. From the side you can’t really see it. And head on you could easily confuse it for a camera. A far cry from the giant spinning ugliness on the Waymo. Also, most of the ones with 360 degree coverage have multple...
It varies. Sometimes my husky, Bandit. Sometimes my container. Sometimes an out of the way hotel. Anybody recognize it? A clue, the dirt on the truck is from what the locals affectionately call “the hill.” And why all the cars look like that.
Not quite on topic but my last appointment at SJC I got a call asking if I wanted an earlier appointment in the Palo Alto SC. Didn’t even know it existed. The. They let me know that the earlier appointment was actually mobile. But still apparently Palo Alto sc is a thing
Assuming they didn’t deliver any EDVs in Q1 because of the Q4 delivery, that could account for 10k of the target. Plus they should be starting fleet deliveries outside of Amazon s00n.
It’s not all about the R1s.
Also there was is a lot of hilly twisty roads (and of roads) in Palo Alto. If you have to chase one of those crazy teen age drivers up page mill or alpine for example the power and handling would be helpful. Of course that begs the question of whether we want to have super police cars doing high...
