Thanks for the data point. Gives me some hope that I can install without losing a safety feature. Apple Music can wait. Same experience w my Drive Cam since delivery day :/
Perhaps you’re right. I posted my original replies based on my experience w Tesla Dashcam for the same application since 2018, having several usb sticks fail on me after a few months. Maybe it was just 2018 tech, or a series of bad sticks. After switching to endurance microSD cards, been going...
Figured out the left drivers side gasket is way narrower due to being packed w more cables than the right gasket. Switched and it was a lot easier.
I was just thinking the same thing as I struggled with this cable, but seeing how flaky Drive Cam has been so far this first month of ownership...
Anyone with any further tips on fishing wire through rear lift gate wire housing with coat hanger? Having a bear of a time as the 90 degree angle of the USB C connector keeps getting hung up and sliding off my hanger despite generous electrical tape on a reasonably long stretch…
Wait a few drives, it will fail again. Been using a Samsung PRO endurance card with ssd reader and it works for about a day or a couple of drives, then fails again. I’ve done a reboot almost every day. In process of installing a third party Dashcam (Viofo A229 Pro), can’t rely only on Drive Cam.
USB flash drives not great for this application, will die after multiple write cycles. Recommend microSD cards specifically intended for Dashcam use - Samsung PRO Endurance or SanDisk Max Endurance with a usb-c reader. Or a large SSD drive.
Thank you for your detailed tutorial.
Any updates? You mentioned creating a notch in the plastic on liftgate—did you figure out a way to pipe rear camera cable underneath plastic and go to rear glass so it doesn’t have to come back out?
Gen2 R1S here, found instructions to still largely apply...
This guy did it for the exact reason I stated, seems to check out.
Just bummed no way to safely keep that sixth seat, as this for us is the sweet spot for taking two grandparents along with two kids in car seats, without making them take a second car
Amazing work. It appears the seat belt latch for the middle seat goes away with the 40 split removal, yes? So only one passenger w a seatbelt on the remaining 60 portion of the bench? Kind of makes a little more sense to remove the 60 portion instead, if true.
The obsession with Max Packs here has me questioning my choice of Standard. Honest questions:
- Are people getting these actually planning to drive ~200mi out and back in a day without charging or going off grid deep into wilderness that much?
- Do people really believe the $12-14k premium...
Have almost exactly the same thoughts here. Except I’m pre-price hike, so forced to order only from inventory which really limits my options. I was always about maximizing value (RIP Explore) and it feels like the base option with no bells on it is the way to go and about $10k less (with 50ish...
Not planning to. It’s been almost 5 years at this point since preorder, close to 3 years late because of changing circumstances, so I imagine they can and should keep track of my preorder for a few more if my circumstances have changed a bit since then as well. Not intending to flip as some have...
