Pretty much confirmed a software issue. My case has been escalated to Rivian Engineering, per my mobile service tech.

He validated I did everything correctly and that all hardware is working and my devices are in-fact compatible and meet the performance requirements.

So, now we wait...

I decided to ditch the Samsung SD card and adaptor that I was using. Besides it not working, I didn’t like the idea of it flopping around in the center cubby. I ordered a 256GB SanDisk Flash Drive and right angle adaptor from Amazon (see attached). This setup tucks in out of the way in the storage cubby and has solved my recording issues, at least so far. I think my previous setup had a bad SD card.

USB flash drives not great for this application, will die after multiple write cycles. Recommend microSD cards specifically intended for Dashcam use - Samsung PRO Endurance or SanDisk Max Endurance with a usb-c reader. Or a large SSD drive.

To follow-up on my own post, it was not a software issue I guess. I replaced the microSD card I was using and now it’s working fine again. Not sure if the card degraded from use, but it was one of the Samsung “Endurance” cards that’s made for dashcam use.
Wait a few drives, it will fail again. Been using a Samsung PRO endurance card with ssd reader and it works for about a day or a couple of drives, then fails again. I’ve done a reboot almost every day. In process of installing a third party Dashcam (Viofo A229 Pro), can’t rely only on Drive Cam.

Well, I will see how long this setup lasts. For now, it is working great and was cheap. I tried two expensive SD cards and had almost no luck with them. Couldn’t tell you why. I think one may have been a faulty card. Anyway, I was tired of spending more $ on SD cards that were failing to work, so decided to give this setup a whirl. If it ultimately fails, I’ll move on to plan “C”.

Dumdum MechE here, but can you explain why?

They're both NAND Flash memory, so why would one have higher read/write cycles than the other? What is the 'wear mechanism?' And what are we talking here? 100s vs 1000s? or 1000s vs 10,000s? Or 100,000 vs 1,000,000?

Not all NAND flash created equally.

if you can find endurance spec SLC flash in a USB stick, have at it.
Experience is the best teacher. Best of luck.

You want endurance grade cards intended for dash cam use. Usually correlates with price but not always.

Same issue since the update. Info reset resolves it for a couple days....

Frustrating but I expect it to be corrected in the next software update.

Same thing since the last software update. Had to reset the car twice to get the drive cam to work. Hope this is fixed in the next update.

Counterpoint: I don't think you're finding endurance level NAND in most micro SD cards either.
And from what I have seen, no one is publishing what type of flash they're using. At all. (Maybe I should see if I can find full spec sheets on the manufacturers' websites...)

Hell, I can't even find anyone talking about cycles (some appear to advertise minimum expected cycles, but that's all I've seen).

I think we're splitting hairs. I'd be willing to bet 99% of any flash memory is going to be perfectly fine for our application. Experience tells me the limiting factors are likely moreso thermal /environmental (sitting in a very hot/very cold vehicle for extended periods and incurring thermal shock when you get in to kick in the heat/AC while it's meant to perform). That said, even then, most will be perfectly fine, because they should have all been tested for this.

It feels akin to people who insist they need ECC memory in the event you get a bit flip due to a rogue neutron...

Perhaps you’re right. I posted my original replies based on my experience w Tesla Dashcam for the same application since 2018, having several usb sticks fail on me after a few months. Maybe it was just 2018 tech, or a series of bad sticks. After switching to endurance microSD cards, been going for 5+ years without failures. Maybe your experience differs. Just trying to help from my personal experience and understanding, so it is not splitting hairs for me as I will never go back, but to each their own
