Not sure what you're looking for but there are some visual cues you can use to figure some stuff out at least
Gen 1 (22-24) has a "flat" light bar across the front, Gen 2 (25+) has a thinner light bar.
If you're looking at gen 1:
There's no way to tell battery size from the outside but the...
You guys... UHF is opening an exciting door. Over the last few days I've put in about 150 miles trying it out. It's rough around the edges, for sure. But it's also showing a lot of promise. In a weird way, I'd say it feels less like they're writing code and more like taming an animal.
Based on...
You may want to take down this post before CarMax sees it. I've heard there's a clause in their contract that if they find a mistake they can charge you the difference within 90 days.
They will! This is just a dev build thing. They just have an internal nav going basically because that's easier to implement for a demo. On the produciton build they'd for sure take the time to jump through the hoops to connect it to the main nav. That said, they will also give it a bit of...
You should check out the video so you can see what I was talking about, but she turned the wheel like 90 degrees before finally pushing the stalk to stop it from fighting her. It was very interesting to watch. We were going under 10mph at the time
I recommend watching the video on my YouTube Channel Thunder Volt Auto:
There's a lot more context and helpful visuals.
While I was at Rivian's Autonomy day, I was able to go on a demo drive of Rivian's Point to Point self driving system (Their version of FSD). You all have probably seen...
Welp! Someone named me did ask about the supplier. Their answer: "we're not discussing that right now". But don't worry. I'm pretty sure it wasn't luminar.
And it's FP8
Oh you're absolutely right. During the presentation they did mention hands free eyes free being tied to gen 3 autonomy. Even if gen 2 compute and sensors can handle eyes off, the feature won't be turned on for models with no lidar. Presumably because it lands the redundancy.
😂Well... There are no guarantees. That is for certain. What we do at least know for sure is that
1) They DO have working point to point software running on gen 2 (albeit with the need for improvement)
2) They do at least have complete control of the hardware/software stack, unlike mobileye in...
Later this week I will be releasing another video doing some "pixel peeping" so to speak on my demo drive. But I should clarify here. When I said "handled it like a champ" I was referring to the hardware. The point to point driving system was running on a completely stock Gen 2 with headroom to...
That's a great point! All of the marketing push certainly hints at using it in a parallel configuration. And that is true, they have what they are calling "RivLink" that can n theory link any number of these processors together. Gee that reminds of nv link 🤔😂😂
The video on my YouTube channel (Thunder Volt Auto) provides a lot more context and detail:
So I recommend watching that.
I just got to talk with a lot of Rivian’s Engineers at their AI and Autonomy Day in Palo Alto, and let me tell you: my brain is full.
It’s clear that for the upcoming...
Yes, and I think this is more of a mobileye issue than a Rivian one. There ARE mobile eye models that do okay (not great) without pre mapping, but I highly suspect that the mobileye model in gen 1 doesn't support that mode of operation. And if that's the case there's really nothing Rivian can do...
Well thank you! Honestly I feel very lucky to have been invited, it was quite the experience! I'm just getting ready to film my video focused on R2's hardware and... Wow. There's so much to unpack with that alone! Haha
And yeah. Honestly I think it sounds like a good move to get rid of those as...
Haha yeah... some nice comments for sure. The kindness of strangers on the internet always astounds me.....:CWL::CWL:
But yes! I think that's going to be a HUGE factor for them. I'm going to get a bit more into that when I do my deep dive on R2 in the next couple of days
I just got back from Rivian’s Autonomy Day, and if I had to summarize the experience in a word, it would be: wowthatwasalotofinformationandit'ssocoolandtheeingineersoverthereareamazing.
As always - the YouTube version has more details and visuals (which is important to for the stuff I'm talking...
