Perhaps coincidently I started a thread today basically on the same topic. Iād like to see Rivian making more things optional at the configuration stage and most of the things on your list I agree with. Itāll save us a few bucks and I dare say will probably help improve profit margin per car.
My point of this thread was about having more options at the configuration stage, rather than āI want apple car play, or more cup holdersā.
I wasnāt saying they should remove stuff like air suspension or powered hood, or glass roof (Keep them so that the R1 is distinctly premium over the R2)...
Hi all,
I love my R1T LE but having lived with its quirks and bought into the 'early adopter' trade off, it's got me thinking about what my ideal R1 would be and actually how I think it could lower the overall cost and still make more profit per vehicle than current.
Before you all reply...
Looks epic, especially the blacked out logos and writing.
One question (I'm not trying to be funny here) is that mud spray on the hood or just part of the wrap? I get that sort of thing on my truck after a bit of rain and all the dust & pollen. If its part of the wrap, its clever because...
Without wanting to de-rail the thread, I took my R1 to the San Jose SC yesterday to pick up my new spare and have the hood alignment tweaked. In and out in a day i was told when i booked the slot 2 months ago because that was the first opening.
The parking lot was rammed, and not with new...
you mean, 'nmud' spelled backwards?
Man I've enjoyed reading through this one. I'm just surprised that we've not got a thread of folks freaking out about the 20%+ drop in RIVN shares and all the cries of "Rivian is going bust, we're gonna be stuck with an expensive car that no-one can fix...
personally I think this pure PR BS, especially whilst govt. tax incentives are being handed out like candy. Those incentives are throttling back and govts./car makers are having to get real. UK, case in point.
I bet these car makers (more importantly their shareholders) start to row back...

A big chunk of Ford's ICE Truck market base don't have $70k+ to spend on a truck that struggles to do most of what it's cheaper ICE equivalent does.
Rivian R1T and Ford Lightening are two very different markets, with only a small crossover IMO.
I'm with the OP 100%. EVs right now are perfect city/urban run around cars ... smooth, clean, 1 pedal etc etc. but for long journeys (I'm not talking about 'hey let's go adventuring 'coz we have all the time in the world') i would only ever use a Tesla or ICE.
Since owning my R1, I'm ever more...
Great story, and I agree, pulling those ski boots off, sat on the gear tunnel with a cold one after a mega day skiing makes you really appreciate how lucky you are.
Yes and no. Lots of EV options out there (admittedly on higher end of the $ scale). I think this is a Ford - I took a sh!t with my trousers on - problem.
I still really want a Raptor R ...
Thanks for the heads up on this.
I'm getting my new 20" AT spare (as in I don't have one now but ordered one with the truck way back) on Thursday from the SC so I'll mention this. Presume it's a possibility of damage when they put a wheel back in??
I've also drawn a diagram saying how I want...
The thing i find annoying is when I get into the car and then it seems like it doesn't recognize me and I have to hold my card against the driver door - which never works.
I agree with others about the it probably being more the phone thing. I notice walking up to the car first thing i have to...
Yes, tried to tow a horse trailer. It sucked. Sure, torque was great, ride was pretty good but range tanked. For long journey's I would never consider using the R1T.
My advice would be, don't wait for the Rivian. If you're hauling stuff, it'll be much cheaper, way more reliable and less stressful to get yourself a decent ICE truck. Rivian ain't for hauling. It's for middle class adventure wannabees (I include myself in this category).
50/50 of you have...
95% PAAK only.
My card is useless ... it lets me in then won't let me shift into D! I'm holding this thing on/around every part of the drivers door as it instructs, but nothing. Why open the car in the first place??
