  1. New RAN in Del Norte CO

I happened to travel US 160 from Durango to Colorado Springs, and lo and behold - a new RAN has sprung up in Del Norte. Great positioning for those making the trip to Great Sand Dunes NP or Colorado Springs. The actual location, however is dismal - hidden across a gravel lot behind a grocery...
  2. LEVEL 3 Charging problems

I won’t pretend to diagnose, but I experienced similar symptoms, intermittent failures L3 charging, with my R1T DPM. It is now at the Colorado Springs Service Center awaiting a replacement charging port wirng harness, which they diagnosed to be at fault. I will say that service has been...
  3. Pushed the limit too far today towing long distance

I had a similar experience on our recent 3400 mile trip towing our 7500 lb Airstream with our Gen 1 PDM R1T. Ambient temperature was 105 when we navigated from the interstate into a RAN. The battery had preconditioned. About 10 minutes into the charge, the rate dropped to 6kW. I flipped to the...
  4. Rivian / Airstream Towing Experience

On this trip, I avoided interstates as much as possible, enjoyed the ’Blue Highways’ , and generally kept my speed at 60 mph. I do have the 21” wheels (no covers) wheels with Michelin LTX tires.
  5. Rivian / Airstream Towing Experience

Good summary! We also just returned from a 3200 mile trip towing our 28’ Airstream with our R1T PDM. We covered much of the same country, with our route from Durango thru NM and NV to San Francisco, up coast to Astoria, then thru WA, OR, ID, and UT. Hit temps of 109 deg. in NV. With 17 fast...
  6. Need iPad Holder

I use this iPhone holder, which has been solid even on rough babkcountry tracks. VANMASS [Longest Lasting] True... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BRQ5MXGT Now I’m seeking something similar for an iPad mini to use with the control pad for our soon to be delivered Pebble Flow trailer. I hate more...
  7. Rivian EV Truck… Does It Belong Off-Road?! - MORR

Matt recovers many inexperienced drivers in all sorts of vehicles, including purpose outfitted jeeps and side by sides. It’s more a statement of driver skill and YouTube interest potential than the capabilities of the vehicle.
  8. New RAN in Durango

Ah, but you took photos! Superior journalism.
  9. Show off your Level 2 Home Charger installs here

Rivian charger shared between my wife’s Polestar 2 and my R1T. Currently adding 30 mph to my R1T. The best part is the solar on the roof feeding the charger!
  10. New RAN in Durango

Yep, the pedestals are still wearing white plastic, but standing tall in the parking lot of the new (not yet open) REI in Durango CO. Not that I’ll have need, with home charging, but I’m happy to see this installation. No food within walking, but I trust that REI will allow bathroom usage.
  11. R1T CAMPING & TOWING - First experience & lessons from 3 week camping trip with 23' Airstream trailer

Nice writeup! Glad to see others discover the pleasure of towing with a R1T. We have over 9000 miles of towing our 28’ Airstream, and even our few close experiences on range have been naught but a bit of added excitement to the adventure.
  12. 50 Amp extension cord - ok?

I have done exactly this dozens of times. A quality RV extension works fine.
  13. Now this is Excellent Service!

At 1430 on Wednesday, 6/11, my R1T displayed a message stating the need to replace my 12v battery (the truck was delivered 18 mos ago). I called Rivian service, and by 1530 the Colorado Springs Service Center (a lovely 320 mile drive from my home) had arranged to expedite a new battery to the...
  14. Towing through the Mountainous Desert, Charging as well as Geologic.

By 1100 checkout time, I’ve generally added about 16 hrs x 8 mi/hr = 128 miles. I will normally use the NEMA 14-50 outlet with a TT30 adapter, using the 30 amp plug for the Airstream if I’m not running aircon. I don’t do vehicle charging if I need to run both aircon units, but that is rare...
  15. Towing through the Mountainous Desert, Charging as well as Geologic.

My overall avg is 1.14 Ihes My overall towing avg is 1.14, but that varies widely with terrain and wind. The truck will recalibrate estimates once you do a few miles with your particular trailer connected.
  16. Towing through the Mountainous Desert, Charging as well as Geologic.

All good advice. Yes, KOA (Keep On Adding) has a no charging stance, which I suggest is more about not having figured out how much extra to charge. I actually corresponded with KOA and received a most ridiculous reply. I always dial back my amperage, and use a Bluetooth surge suppressor to...
  17. Towing through the Mountainous Desert, Charging as well as Geologic.

We just completed a 1260 mile camping trip through Utah (Zion, Bryce Canyon etc.) towing our 7500 lb 28’ Airstream with our R1T (dual, performance, max). Much of this route was through the Navajo nation - pretty scarce on facilities. We used only nine public fast charging sites, thanks to...
  18. Building a new house - what would you ensure was part of the plan?

I live in Durango, and have 10.5kW of rooftop solar that generally satisfies household demand as well as routine charging of two EVs. With net metering, I save by scheduling charging during strong solar production. If I couldn’t do this, I would strongly consider home battery storage to bank...
  19. Charging at RV sites?

I have used a NEMA 14-50 to TT-30 adapter dozens of times in RV parks as we travel with our R1T (dual, max, performance) towing our Airstream. I do set the R1T to 24A, snd have never had a electrical issue or objection from the park owners. Note that I avoid KOA, as many have a no EV charging...
  20. Anyone Still Using RAN?

Any charger that meets my needs is the one I’ll use. In the SW, there are rarely multiple choices when road tripping with our Airstream. That said, RAN is my preference for ease of use and reliability, and Tesla is charger of last resort - just because.
