No. Closet comparisons I can offer are:
-MY P: Significantly harsher/crashier than the R1S thanks to the rubber band tires and no air ride, but better damping and much better steering.
-New Defender: Comparable in steering and overall ride feel, but better damping and comfort over bad...
Had my First Mile today. Posting to track the issue and in hopes that Rivian can fix the R1S suspension tune OTA.
The existing suspension tune feels pretty unfinished. Very strange floaty behavior over small undulations but otherwise firm bordering on harsh. I was actually getting a bit of...
Looking forward to the launch details on the EX90. Thanks to Rivian's ridiculous "2024" delivery date for my 2021 preorder, I'll likely reserve the Volvo as a hedge.
List is a weird mix of outdated and no-name products. Have to assume it's either affiliate link farming or paid advertising.
Ceramic coatings (including spray "ceramics") are pretty much undisputed king at this point. Lots of good spray options out there. Turtle Wax surprisingly makes really...
That's a bummer. Did they explain why they determined it was unsalable? It may be a good thing that they're filtering deliveries like that--a certain other major EV company probably would have tried to deliver it to you regardless.
There's a big difference between standard paint correction (compound and polish) and orange peel removal (wet sanding the entire car). Wet sanding removes a ton of clearcoat and is risky as hell, not to mention really difficult and time consuming. I personally wouldn't do it on a new car.
Thank you. I've been able to see more and more R1Ts up close this week. They all had a more even finish than the one I saw on the flipper lot, but all still had loads of orange peel. Makes me think I should plan on a full-body wrap to even things out.
Can somebody post closer pics of paint quality/orange peel? I've only seen one FG in person, at a dealer trying to flip it for $[expletive]. The orange peel was really, really bad and very uneven. Hoping that was a bad example or a respray.
Just wanted to say thanks for coming here and answering everybody's questions. It's a huge help.
And that launch green in stealth looks absolutely sick.
Thanks, this is super helpful. Looks too close for my comfort. Too bad the Kuat racks seem to have these fit issues with the R1T, they're really terrific otherwise.
Confirmed based on what, exactly?
Given that this shop gave you an $11,600 quote that somehow magically became 6,500, I'd be seriously questioning everything they say.
Great trip report and very useful information.
I have to say this is the type of trip that makes me a bit anxious about leaving Tesla, as much as I want to for other reasons. We did that exact same trip with a Model Y last summer, and charging was a total afterthought--tons of supercharging on...
FWIW, Jalopnik hasn't been a legitimate (or even remotely accurate) source of automotive journalism for quite a while now. They specialize in hot takes for page views, like here.
Might bite the bullet and get full-body PPF when (if?) I get my R1S. I used to get heartburn over desert pinstriping my 4Runner and the Rivian is half a foot wider and twice the price...
Also, wanted to put in a shout-out for Adam's Graphene spray coating for hobbyist detailers. Not quite as...
Working with Toyota dealerships is hell, especially Pro trims. I bought a 4Runner TRD Pro a few years ago and it took me a month of searching and a flight halfway across the country to get one that wasn't marked up. That was pre-COVID.
I reached out to a bunch of dealers about the new Sequoia...
Hopefully Rivian is able to improve this OTA, or even update hardware as it ramps production. Charge curve has the potential to be a significant limitation on utility given the large size of Rivian's battery packs. This reported charge curve is somewhere between 50-70% the speed of a TM3/TMY...
