I just got my car back from the Gaithersburg service center for a collection of minor issues (door alignment, wind noise, etc.) that had accumulated since I took delivery of the car in October. I had put off taking the car in because until Gaithersburg opened, the nearest service center was...
Do you mean 20 inch wheels? I chose the 20 inch wheel for exactly this reason (available tire alternatives). I then switched out the AT tires for AS Scorpions (also Pirelli) and get the same efficiency as the 21 inch wheels or better. My average over the past 500 miles has been about 2.6...
The fit is also not perfect; there is some overlap with part of the front headliner on my R1S. That said, big difference in temperature. But it looks a little down market.
Hopefully Rivian will at some point offer something clever and more attractive.
I have an R1S which came with 20 ATs. I switched out the ATs for all seasons about six months in.
I live in the DC area so there is no situation in which I drive without traffic.
That said, on long distance road trips to NYC and back on the ATs, in winter (such as it is down here - 40s)...
Thanks to the OP for such a thoughtful and detailed report.
I am on the east coast (Maryland). The density of EA and other third party chargers from at least Richmond VA to Boston is relatively high. I have driven from the DC area to NYC and beyond and it has been seamless. The chargers...
BTW, the more I read about the problems and delays people are having when they get flat tires with OEM tires- which are not easy to get ahold of quickly for those not close to service centers -- the happier I am to have ordered the 20 inch rims and changed to a tire I can buy at Walmart.
This is my average in the 2500 miles since I switched to AS. This is all driving. It is of course better at constant highway speeds (65 or so). Deduct 3% for the tire size delta and the average is about 2.45 kw/h.
Great advice! Thank you.
I've been noticing about 3 mph off at 65, compared to the GPS speed, which seems roughly consistent with what you are seeing at 85.
