I made a reservation recently. If I’m waiting until 2023, I’m taking that as a sign to get something different. Rivian is advertising Jan 2022 on their website, anything beyond June is deceptive advertising in my opinion.
So if Tesla is losing market share, how is Rivian going to compete? I plan to own this truck for at least 10 years. I need them to be around to keep the thing running.
I have had the Tesla abort summon at a point where the driver door will not open in the door frame. Had to climb in from the backseat to sort things out. Haven’t used it since. If you fold the mirrors you can get even farther over. Put some padding on the wall so you do it have to worry about...
If you use the setup that comes with the truck rather than buying a hardwired unit, I recommend some form of all 3. Two dedicated 120V 20 AMP circuits. And a 240 volt 50 AMP Circuit. Put the 120s in handy locations for daily charging. Use the 240 when you get back from a trip or need to top off...
Sorry no loaners for me even for warranty work now. We used to get one before the 3 came along. Uber credits only during a pandemic! They make you wait outside in the cold and rain for 30 minutes at every pickup due to COVID. I learned the hard way you need to call and pretend you are there...
6 years & 80,000 miles later I can't say the Tesla Model S has been one of our most reliable cars but not nearly as bad as our old Saab. It was easy to forgive the mechanical issues when Tesla treated us well.
After the Model 3 came out, things fell apart. Appointments are still very hard to...
The truck comes with one. The one our Tesla came with has served us well for the last 6 years.
If I wanted to get the full 48 Amp capability, I would seriously look at a modified Tesla version.
I rarely worry about getting going in the winter, it is stopping that makes me nervous. Having the extra weight of the batteries in the back should help... still need to be very careful.
Good winter tires are really important. No amount of software can compensate for poor tires.
Our neighborhood has a hill. One winter there was Mercedes G-Wagon (3 locking diffs) with summer tires struggling even with the tow truck winch assisting. Meanwhile the neighbor's Honda CRV drove right...
Not to be a downer... I was really excited about the warranty... until I remembered economics class where some manufacturers offer great warranties since it is cheaper to repair than to have superb reliability.
DC charging is all about location. Restaurants, shopping, walking all help pass the time. Nothing worse than a 40 minute charge on a cold, rainy night with nothing to do and no place to stretch your legs.
I get why direct sales is important and the new car companies would flop with a dealership approach.
Why are Tesla and Rivian so protective against 3rd party repairs? Is it about control, cost, profit?
The Tesla Service centers feel more like going to the circus than getting my car repaired...
I think you can use more of the top end of your pack without any harm. We keep our Tesla at 90% and have seen about a 5% drop in range over 6 years. A periodic 100% charge is supposed to be good for things and help balance all of the cells.
One thing people don't talk about is that high speed...
