If I could do it again, I’d opt for 20” wheels. There are just so many more options. Your options are nonexistent with 21s and still more limited with 22s.

I’m running 20” wheels? I’m looking to get a set of 20” wheels but I’d like to keep one of my 21” wheels as a spare. Is that problematic if it would only be short-term, emergency use?

The tire wear in conserve mode happens primarily when you’re doing city driving with a lot of starting/stopping/acceleration. My R1T tows better than any vehicle I’ve owned (Tahoe, F150, Suburban, Bronco, Q7). So much torque and a heavy vehicle that makes you forget about the 5000lb boat behind you.

My primary concern is range when I’m road tripping. When the trip calculation says I’ll only have 50 miles at arrival, I was wondering if I could not cut it quite so close by putting the tailgate down. Looks like the answer is no.

For range/efficiency purposes or just because you don’t like tailgates being down? ;-)

Thanks. I generally agree, however I thought, with the significant aerodynamic shaping on the back of the cab, etc., that maybe it wasn’t the case and/or curious to see if anyone had actually tested it yet.

My apologies if this has already been asked and answered (I did a search and couldn't find anything). I'm curious if people have already determined what, if any, impact lowering the tailgate on road trips has on the efficiency/range. I know it can significantly impact mpg on ICE trucks.

Your mph is where the analysis deviates for me. My R1T is way more efficient at 75+mph than my friend's Lightning. I don't drive 65mph on roadtrips... ever. If I'm in our Audi Q7, cruise control is set to 80+mph. In the R1T I'm at 78mph. The larger size of the Lightning just doesn't do well...

Get a hitch mount for the bikes (preferably a 1Up rack). Way more wind resistance up top and you won't notice any additional noise with a hitch mount rack.
