I get reduced regen in 3-5 minutes going downhill at 45-65 degrees ambient every time...I was really surprised how little it takes. In fact I thought there might be an issue w/ my R1S regen ability, but from the forums here is said to be normal. Seems pretty odd to be, but I am guessing some...
1. Regen - I can get Regen to force me to used breaks in 2-3 minutes on a semi-steep road. Is that normal? I would assume it would last 10x that as long as I was not dumping the throttle high speed.
2. Charging - Any issue leaving it on L1 when it is sitting at 70% for a few days? The L2...
1. Throttle at low speeds is difficult to control in tight spaces. A bad tap and you can lurch forward or back. Low speed handling seems wonky 1-3mph forward and reverse.
2. Regen needs a low setting in all drive modes, maybe a 33% reduction from standard
3. Obviously voice to text and text to...
The UI is great. They have put out an amazing v1.0 product. Far superior to CarPlay that is for sure.
But that said, they need a better interface for both texting and calls. They also need some refinements for Mapping. Totally doable, and looking at their release cadence and current...
Sweet! Me too! We bought a v1.0 vehicle, from a v1.0 company, in a v1.1 market of EVs...So, you are along for the ride. Which includes focusing on the native tech stack.
It always amazes me about Rivian buyers - you bought the equivalent of the iPhone 2G of a car, and complain about...
I installed the very first CarPlay head unit w/ an Alpine. I have likely been using it for many years before most consumers. My GF just bought a 2023 Toyota w/ Carplay. IT SUCKS.
I just received a Rivian R1S.
I hope to all that is good and decent, they continue working on their FABULOUS UI...
I believe it is against the law to void an entire warranty if the tires meet the manufacturer recommended specs...I guess how close those specs need to be is a question though.
"Normal" Hard to say, because they (Rivian) are still pretty new at all this...I have not paid them anything in terms of down payment and financing is pre-approved, but technically not sure I have even bought the vehicle yet, maybe contractually I have to some extent...and I have a Rivian...
I remember reading Kyle's first review in snow that the wheels locked up downhill when he hit (or completely lifted up his foot) high regen. I can't imagine a circumstance where regen causing all wheels to stop rolling makes any sense and yeah, would be the opposite of ABS.
I guess find a...
Echo what @faastwheels said. Are you sure you want studded tires if you live in the Seattle area? I am not an expert by any means, but my sense is a true winter non-studded tire on a Rivian is going to be a winter beast in all but ice/nordic conditions...
That said, the studded ones + Rivian...
101% agree...for non-towing folks, 400 miles of range is the inflection point for the vast majority of American drivers. When we see EV's standardize on the 400mil mark, new ICE vehicles will cease to exist IMO...not sure how many years away that is, but seems like ~5 or so....2028 model year...
That is exactly what two R1T drivers mention this weekend in Tahoe - they were losing traction monkeying around with Regen and then having to throttle up get traction back. Both these guys have been driving in Tahoe for at least 2 decades. Hopefully the update fixes this because it is plainly...
I feel like Rivian could be legally culpable for this...There have been many folks having issue w/ the weight, regen, and ability to throttle/coast. This was talked about **last winter**...yet they have sand mode? Drift mode? Someone gets killed before the update w/ a sensible snow mode (and...
Funny, I also think is it a little too square, but only slightly, like 2-3" for slightly more slope IMO would look better. But overall I like it now more than significant slope...
If I remember correctly Out of Spec Kyle's first review last winter had the wheels locking up downhill in snow. The fact they have Sand Mode & Drift/Rally seems completely insane to prioritize over safe downhill snow handling which is a fairly ubiquitous use case in most of the US...odd...
Is the concept of 4 puck set for folks with a lift at home or when you take it in for service to provide to the shop? I assume Rivian service has their own at the SCs right?
Ahhh...
This sounds way off as well...Maybe something was wrong with their tester? The truck is 20% more efficient with the same tires? That would fly in the face of just about every other test, Rivian's numbers, and maybe even physics lol...

In our real-world highway range test, the R1S...
