  1. RJ quote: more sensors (including radar & lidar) is a way to catch up to Tesla's camera-only autonomous driving system

These sensors have been around for nearly two decades and it still cost a fortune to repair. The cost of the sensors isn't the issue. It's the wiring and labor.
  2. RJ quote: more sensors (including radar & lidar) is a way to catch up to Tesla's camera-only autonomous driving system

More sensors equals more cost and more expensive to repair (even for the minor fender bender), right? Less sensors and more reliance on a few cameras seems like the better solution for everyone, right? So why is RJ bragging about this?
  3. Rivian Automatically Records "Incidents" - Privacy Concerns

Do you think companies selling your data is going to reduce pedestrian deaths Do you think companies selling your data is going to reduce pedestrian deaths? That's the first question you'd need to answer. And if all we care about is non-vehicle accidents, then why doesn't Rivian or any other...
  4. Rivian Automatically Records "Incidents" - Privacy Concerns

Totally agree. The insurance company I switched to offered a discount to download their app and collect data. I refused. Again, back to my first statement- These companies (including Rivian) are making it more expensive and cumbersome to keep your privacy so that they can make more money. I'm...
  5. Rivian Automatically Records "Incidents" - Privacy Concerns

I get your concern about safety. I'm not trying to encourage unsafe driving. This isn't about safety, it's about privacy. I'm also not trying to fear mongering at all. This is real concern. I'm paying more for insurance to keep some privacy. That's not a what-if scenario. It's real. And it's...
  6. Rivian Automatically Records "Incidents" - Privacy Concerns

What a computer deems "reckless" is not always accurate.
  7. Rivian Automatically Records "Incidents" - Privacy Concerns

Haha but yes, who wouldn't? Is that too much to ask? Because the alternative is not a great place-where we have a social credit score, insurance score, cameras on every street corner and in every vehicle tracking anything and everything. It's not a far fetched idea-it's happening.
  8. Rivian Automatically Records "Incidents" - Privacy Concerns

Jokes aside...we all know that's not possible. But apparently Rivian insurance thinks I'm a very safe driver and offered me a 40% discount. So other drivers out there must have a lot more "incidents" than me
  9. Rivian Automatically Records "Incidents" - Privacy Concerns

I don't know how I just noticed this, but looking through the Drivecam screen, I noticed a tab called "Incidents". These are all "incidents" that Rivian automatically recognizes, records, and saves down. I was unaware this was occurring in the background, and frankly, I don't like it at all...
  10. Educating ourselves on Rivian's autonomous driving history, present, and future

As a R1 owner, I'm very disappointed. Rivian has definitely led us to believe that what we have today is not the end product, yet it sounds like it is. I'm fine and completely understand not having autonomous driving features. But not having normal adaptive cruise control that isn't tied to...
  11. YouTube App and Google Cast video streaming coming to Rivian infotainment system

I mean I'll take this new feature. But come on, just give us wireless Carplay already.
  12. Community NVH Thread - Share your fixes for noises, rattles, clunks, squeaks

Can someone please help me fix terrible wind noise coming from the two front triangle windows? I've taken it to the shop 3 times and they tried to fix it the first time and the other two times they said it was normal and wouldn't do anything. It is so bad at high speeds that I can't use my...
  13. My Rivian Driver+ almost killed me

I've experienced several incidents where Driver+ would have caused highway crashes if I didn't intervene. Because of that, Driver+ is essentially worthless to me. I don't enjoy being a guinea pig.
  14. New R2 photo (fifth teaser)

This seems accurate. But then that begs the question of how are they going to achieve that and still be under the $50k price point? Smaller battery alone won't do it? They need to cut like $30k+ cost out of the R1. This seems too similar to the R1 to accomplish that. If the R2 is not under...
  15. StowNCharge by Adventure High Tech - Review / Installation

I don't care about the charging aspect, I want one of these just for the storage compartment!
  16. CONCERN: RIVN have enough cash to to go beyond 2025 and launch R2?

you mean the factory that is currently rough graded? The question is will they be able to survive until 2027 when R2 sales finally start occurring.
  17. 2024.03 Software Update *BETA* (Quick Controls, Individual Passenger Window Locking, Ride Feel & Ride Height Improvements & More)

While I agree that we all chose to purchase a Rivian, and therefore it is our burden to bear, I don't agree at all that we should accept the vehicle EXACTLY as it rolled of the lot. That is completely contrary to Rivian's own philosophy and marketing. Rivian has been marketing their OTA updates...
  18. RIvian internal announcement: Software upgrade from Dual to Dual Performance available in 2024

I have a hunch that they have been holding off on this announcement to push more initial sales of Performance DM. I think if you have the ability to upgrade at a later date, Rivian is afraid that most people will purchase the regular DM initially, thinking they may upgrade to Performance in the...
  19. Mods For Less Cartoonish Front End?

I know this is a little off topic, but I don't mind the front-end as much as the back-end. Every time I'm behind another R1 on the road I think "Geez, does mine look like that?". The rear end of the R1s look so squished and just don't match the rest of the vehicle. The photos don't do it...
