My R1S was supposed to replace a 2001 Land Cruiser with 300k miles. Ended up trading in the wife’s suburban and keeping the cruiser instead. Correctly assumed she would be driving the R1S more than me anyway. Love the difference in drives. It does make the Rivian feel amazing going from cruiser.
Yup. Yakima LockNLoad Crossbar Clamps. I used 2 sets. 3 is recommended for max carrying capacity, but when I did my maths, I determined I could never get to full weight due to limits of the Rivian crossbars. This would be a reason to direct mount. I personally like mine on the bars though, as I...
Wind noise is negligible until you hit 50 mph. Above 50 it’s noticeable, but no different than any other vehicle with a platform rack. I am either playing music loudly, listening to kids screaming, or both, so I don’t notice that much. I am planning on adding a fairing.
In terms of range hit...
Not only would this be difficult, it would be inefficient and more costly than buying a portable unit. It will also take up more space than a portable unit. Just pricing it out quickly and probably missing some things, this project will run you at least $250 in materials and take 10 hours if you...
I love EA! Just finished up my charge @$0.14/kWh. Would’ve been closer to $0.10/kWh if I wasn’t charging up to 85% for a trip. I also got 540 kWh free on Cape Cod with a charger that kept giving complementary sessions over our week vacation.
In the comments OP says the Rivian has front end damage. No mention of underbody damage though.
My experience is the underbody protection is worth it. My wife just called me yesterday while driving to say that a really large rock had kicked up and hit the underbody while driving. She said it...
A lot of vehicles relay a vehicle specific MAC address to the charger that I guess they could data mine? That’s my best guess. That or they are getting enough from the commercials on the screen of the charger to have it be free.
Let’s just say that my moral fibers became quite elastic when faced with sitting at a 50kw station for an hour, or getting back on the road in 15 minutes, to see my family on the 4th.
Btw, we pay a connection fee at the gas pump too, it’s called the cost built into the price to cover equipment...
If you are in a hurry to charge (or have no other options), they are great. Generally pull over 212kw on them and they provide a nice charging curve until ~70% charge.
My wife charged at an EA site south of Boston today that was drastically changing kw by the minute. That would be my biggest EA...
