  1. Purchase hesitancy

How long are you traveling on a typical day? Are you able to charge at home? Range anxiety is real and if you typically do very long trips your hybrid may be better. If your typical trip is under ~300 mi and you can charge at night, IMO, the R1S is the best camping vehicle made. I cant...
  2. Snow Driving Issues

I have only drove our R1S (DM,22) in “winter” conditions once and it did fine. It was around 20F and we were mainly on the interstate. The left lane was completely covered and the right lane was slushy. We went slow (~50-60mph) and never did I feel out of control. Having said that I would have...
  3. R2 Reservation Info ($100), Reveal Event Date and Page now on Rivian Website [Updated w/ R2 Teaser Video]

FWIW; I like the reservation to only be at $100. It will give a lot more people the chance to “join” the club. I went skiing last weekend with my nephew and his friends. All of them were very interested in my R1S if not for the price. At $100 I would bet a few of them put $$ down. At $1000...
  4. Is this a cooling vent…

I figured it did something; part of the allure of this vehicle for me is the purposeful design. I need to start thinking more of efficiency than cooling with EVs maybe.
  5. Is this a cooling vent…

Thanks for the quick responses. Makes perfect sense now in hindsight.
  6. Is this a cooling vent…

Or just a way for mud to sling up the side? /s Does anyone know what the purpose of this slot is? If it doesn’t have a purpose could it be “plugged” with a spongy material like you do with dirt bikes to keep mud out? There is another (hard to clean) slot in the front bumper as well that is a...
  7. Rivian now selling wiper blades

We are in the north east and have had more rain and snow than sun since we picked up our R1S in December. I have been impressed with the wipers and overall visibility in it. We keep ours in the garage as well and I wash it often (maybe too much, lol). Wonder if they change rubber compound or...
  8. Rivian R1 Shop or wait for configuration to be built

We were lucky and found one in the shop and got it over a year early. Dec 23 instead of Jan 25, so easier choice for me. We also had the 21” wheels configured but the one in shop had dark 22s. 22s look so good IRL, I am glad we went with them. Also more aftermarket tire options FWIW. So yeah if...
  9. How To Ruin Your Electric Car's Battery (3 Common Mistakes) - Engineering Explained

We were doing the exact same with our R1S. However after watching this video I will be charging it now when it hits 50%. My understanding was reducing amount of discharge each cycle will extend battery life. FWIW
  10. In search of the best hitch-mount bike rack for R1S

I am late to this thread; we have the Thule Pro XT with extra 2 bike kit, so 4 total. It has a hitch lock and individual bike locks as well, FWIW. I can install and load up with bikes and post pictures if anyone wants to see it. It is a fantastic rack and would be a 10/10 but it is so heavy...
  11. Vampire drain - what's the latest battery % loss people are getting?

1 week idle update. After almost exactly one week of sitting our R1S went from 70% to 65%. Stored indoors at ~68F. As stated earlier in thread this has improved since .50 update.
  12. Software Update 2023.50 -- Scheduled battery preconditioning & other useful improvements!

R1S (DM,LP) updated to .50 a few days ago. Idle drain seems to have been reduced from 2-4% per day to less than 1% per day. We did a 200 mi trip after the .50 update and I didn’t notice any difference in suspension feel. I typically run in stiff mode FWIW.
  13. Vampire drain - what's the latest battery % loss people are getting?

Pick up our R1S on 12/30 with .46 and would have around 2-4% drain per day (being new I was constantly waking it up and getting in out of it). Idle drain did get better recently after I started killing the app as to not accidentally wake it up when close, probably 1-2% per day. I now have .50...
  14. How much/what kind of off-roading can you do with the 22” wheels?

IMO for light off roading the 22” wheels will be ok. The biggest concerns are rocks striking/damaging the wheels and the 22” tires cannot not be deflated as much so less traction. The main thing; again in my novice opinion is going slow and really scouting any rocky areas. Make sure you always...
  15. Cold weather performance

I believe the auto regen stops at 93%. I prefer to drive with it. But you are right, I will probably charge to 100% before we leave since most of the initial miles are interstate anyway. thanks again everyone for the replies.
  16. First Impressions of large pack Dual Motor R1S

It is the closest thing IMO. It also really reminds me of driving a manual car and being in the perfect gear all the time. When I had my Celica and Wrangler I rarely hits the brakes.
  17. Cold weather performance

My main concern was drain (and possible strain) on the battery while parked at night if both of the chargers are unavailable. Thanks for all of the quick replies. I have some reading to do.
  18. First Impressions of large pack Dual Motor R1S

We were lucky and found a large pack with DMs available this year (instead of our scheduled Jan 25 date). We locked it in and the process went relatively smoothly. We originally opted for the 21” wheels but both loved the look of the black on black and were ok with the 11 mi range hit. One...
  19. Cold weather performance

We are planning a trip to the mountains next weekend and the temperatures are projected to be high of 12 and lows of 6 all weekend. If there is any ice we will take our Outback with Blizzaks. We live 80 miles from the lodge and it has a Telsa charger and the charger in the attached photo. I...
