Yes, I agree. Bad news. I guess I was thinking that I would spec out my R1T now, then once the 180 becomes available I'd just switch to that before delivery and keep my place in line. Hmmm...
Tire size question:
Advantages/disadvantages for the different wheel sizes? (R1T for me)
I heard Emme Hall mention that she wished smaller wheels were an option and it seems that this confirms it.
Mainly she said that the advantage of the larger wheels was a stronger braking system, but that...
Whew, just finally caught up on 18 pages of comments! My thoughts are similar to many posting here: I'm still excited, but bummed about the delay for the 180kW. I assumed that Rivian would start with the bigger battery pack (e.g. more expensive) then move to the cheaper versions, which was ok...

Super bummed that the 180kW version is later. ugh. more waiting.
You're right that we (or I) don't know that for sure, but based on the interviews that Emme Hall has given in the past she seems to be a pretty straight shooter and it seems unlikely that she would let Rivian interject in her editorial process (or at least not by much). Just a hunch really, but...
I think it's credit to Rivian for lifting the embargo and allowing Hall to write an honest review. I don't know how often this happens but it seems this is a rare chance for the public to have a peek behind the curtain of a pre-production vehicle's specs written by a legit journalist. They could...
There's also a companion article Emme Hall wrote about charging. Not a long one, though:

I'm not at all ashamed to say that I binge watched the entire event (and tracked the teams live on the live tracker) - all of the hours of live footage and interviews, etc. I was driven to see any bit of info about the Rivian and Team 140 - Killer Watt. It was really fun actually. I only wish...
