I'm less worried about Rivian not surviving now.
This is a critical part of VW's future... It's not just the Scout. It'll be used in their entire lineup with Porsche and Audi helping...
Rivian isn't really a Tesla competitor (despite people trying to cross shop the Model X crossover sometimes). BYD, Kia, Hyundai are though...
This should give Rivian some slack to get R2 on the market ?
I think half the video was about that.
Was mostly a lot of disappointment about max pack charging speeds.
Would be curious is the behavior is the same on a RAN charger but I suspect it is from the battery thermal management...
I think Kyle genuinely loves Rivian's but he's just trying to get them to do better.
Ditto the last Gen2 Out of Spec Detailing review. Paint getting rubbed off when opening a door isn't what I'd expect of a Gen2.
Hope Rivian takes this as constructive feedback.
I'm actually surprised I haven't...
I thought about asking about it and the unheated headlights but it was an AMA with Wassym who is the software head...
Would love an AMA with the mechanical design and service heads...
If it's similar to the Scout, people might be convinced.
3.5sec 0-60 is noticably faster than a gas engine can do unless your in hypercar territory...
Plus you get to charge at home (if you can) and be cheaper than gas unless you live in CA ?
A few for me:
He mentioned a third party app API in a previous interview. When will this be available and can anyone build apps for the system? I.e. will there be a fee...how do people upload/debug apps...is there a certification process?
How is Rivian hunting down all the mysterious reboot...
Apparently because they're 6x bigger ?
At least they should save some money because of fewer cells. I was hoping it was some new formulation with high energy density... ?
"selling tri-motors to mitigate supply issues for motors as these vehicles only require 1 large motor per build."
Just realized this means they're using Bosch motors for the Tri?
That'll reduce their profit on it too...
Interesting blurb on what batteries the R2 / R3 / R3X will use
Looks like bigger cells so more cost savings:

Lower prices are more because China isn't consuming as much (in a recession) and there is overproduction.
But most people are also better served with hybrids...save gas 90% of the time and can refill quickly on longer trips.
EVs are more fun to drive though ?
