Ok so I called Rivian, and apparently this text was something of an error. It's for a proactive replacement program they are doing on early build gen 2 vehicles, where the bracket holding the 12v battery in place was damaging the battery.
At this point, they have already reached out to me via...
This has been discussed on other threads, but you can't really make a comparison between Tesla retrofitting FSD computers and gen 1 to Gen 2 rivian. Tesla was able to do that because the vehicles shared the same architecture and wiring harness so it was a simple part swap.
Simple part swaps...
Wassym actually acknowledged the existence of this feature for the first time since Gen 2 launch in a recent Twitter comment. Afaik there was absolutely NO official mention of the existence of this feature between those dates. So good to hear that it's actually on their radar again
It uses UWB, which is supposed to be faster and more accurate than Bluetooth (this is what air tags use). Also more power efficient than bluetooth
Additionally (and I could be wrong on this part), it includes an NFC component. So if your phone is dead you can tap it on your door handle, and it...
This is correct. Wallet based phone key uses UWB, and that's a Gen 2 feature. Unless Apple allows for Bluetooth keys in wallet (I don't think they do), it won't work for Gen 1, sadly
I have used open pilot. And it IS better than Gen 2 in almost every way (at least right now). And the collaborative steering is great! It tends to make mistakes far less often than Gen 2. With the latest DTR model it rarely requires intervention on highway. But when it does require correction...
Sounds like your mind is made up, so better buy up CCS equipped cars while they're still around!
In my mind NACS is a more elegant engineering solution. It is better than CCS for sure. BUT - it's also not a big enough difference for me to buy a vehicle purely based on that. The reality is that...
IMHO this made me kind of sad. A cool feature, FOR SURE. And it sounds like it's well implemented too. My Mustang with Ford Blue Cruise had this as well.
BUT - it feels like a bit of a cop out. If you're using this feature, that means that the system is doing something wrong and you have to...
Funny you should bring this back to the top. I've been thinking about this as well. They've definitely made some new strides with perception. I plan on running the same tests again to see if it's still just usiing that one camera for the autonomy functions.
Side note here - the ENTIRE premise...
It's just a much more elegant design. The smaller port enables a few things
it can be hidden it more inconspicuous places on vehicle designs
it's easier to insert (even if it's on an AWFUL heavy EA cable, the smaller port sill makes for easier insertion)
the stupid cover flap for DC charging...
Hopefully it helps! I may be telling you what you already know, but just Google instructions for getting into the ride menu. It feels naughty but there's nothing you can harm in there. You should find it under "calibration"
when you say that you calibrated... Are you referring to the actual calibration menu in the ride app?
The windows on Rivian and don't calibrate like a normal vehicle where you continue to hold upwards on the window switch after the window is closed
That's impressive!! I would have a hard time haha. I use about 12% battery with my daily commute. And I often have extra excursions after work .

Maybe that's how I've hit 18,000mi in just 9 months... 🤔
