Completely agree. If they want to charge per mile then, at best you could check odometers annually and charge accordingly, but of course there would be no way to guarantee all those miles were driven in that given state, but I guess it would work to replace the Federal gas taxes.
Interesting. Although I found ...
The accuracy of the law of the fourth power is disputed among experts, since the test results depend on many other factors, such as climatic conditions, in addition to the factors mentioned above.
Regardless, I learned something new today. Thank you!
So, let...
Please cite your source above. While it may not be completely linear, I find it hard to believe that a vehicle that weighs 75% more than a 4k lbs vehicle does 21X the damage.
Again, the less efficient, the more fuel (electricity) the EV will use which is the same case with gas which is why the...
That's funny because I COMPLETELY agree w/ everything you assert except that you are NOT being double-taxed for the *fuel* that moves your EV on the roads just like the gas tax for ICE vehicles.
Perhaps TX is diff, but at least in MD they break out the actual electricity usage cost vs the cost...
The problem is that ALL taxes and fees are arbitrary and capricious. While fuel taxes are a *usage* tax the problem is that we already pay a fuel *usage* tax on the electricity used to charge an EV.
That said, I do agree that TX and any other state that charges an additional fee only for EV...
The link I cited looks like a reasonable *apples-to-apples* comparison and my point stands; i.e. I'll take a flat $200/year fee vs a state income tax which is FAR more egregious and counter-productive.
Just to clarify, the MD *state rain tax* is unique and ON TOP OF the water and sewer taxes...
Let's not be naïve, if Rivian can track your location in real-time, then so can the government upon request, which is why we should have been able to *opt-out* of the *Data Consent* clause in the Rivian purchase agreement but that has been discussed exhaustively in other threads.
Agreed, but obviously it depends upon the methodology used to compare apples-to-apples, and based upon the following, TX ranks 6th w/ an effective state-local tax rate of 8.6% where as *the Peoples Republic of Maryland* ranks 35th w/ an effective state-local tax rate of 11.3%: State and Local...
Agreed about the principal; however, a fundamental econ 101 principal is the following:
if you want more of something, then subsidize it; if you want less of something, then tax it.
So, if the Federal government or a state *truly* wanted to decrease fossil fuel use ASAP, then there would be...
Considering that TX has no state income tax, I would gladly trade that extra $200/year EV fee for the *tens* of thousands per year that I pay *The Peoples Republic of MD* in state income tax.
Careful w/ making *broad brush* assertions like this. Obviously, this is *highly* relevant upon everyone's individual situation.
In my case, I'm self-employed, so I will be writing off 100% of my R1S $88k price tag this tax year via section 179 deduction in addition to the $0.65/business mile...
Why bother getting it replaced? FWIW, I've put 30k+ miles/year on my daily drivers for the last 30+ years and if I were to replace a windshield EVERY time I got a chip/crack in it, then I'd be replacing them YEARLY.
AFAIC, as long as you can see out of it sufficiently, for that kind of...
AFAIC, the numbers are on your side.
#1 My R1S pre-order pricing cost me $88k after taxes, tags, destination, etc. but the SAME build costs $19k more now. That's a $107k vehicle for $88k!
#2 After running the numbers on electric vs gas costs only (not counting oil/filter changes, spark...
Let's just say it's not as good as the Bose-based sound system in my Audi Q7 nor the Bang & Olufsen-based sound system in my daughter's previous Audi Q5.
Per some comments in the forums, make sure your A/C is on *recirculate*. Also, I keep mine on *Low* temp and turn my blower on max about 5-10 mins before I leave so by the time I drive away it's cool and I can cut the blower back to min which isn't nearly as noisy.
I was being kind when I said it was *mediocre at best* but it really does suck! Truly a step back to the 70s-80s when anyone who wanted a great sound system had to replace the OEM one w/ a custom solution. SMH
Again, AFAIC it's about expectations. Much like the Expedition is NOT a luxury vehicle like it's brother the Navigator, the R1S is NOT a luxury vehicle but a truck and drives like one albeit more like a cross between a truck and an *elite* sports car which also notoriously does NOT ride smooth...
