  1. Jack stands?

Exactly. Although my wife gave me a hard time for the amount of $$$ ($400+) I spent to DIY rotate my tires between the magnetic jack pucks, another floor jack, torque wrench, and wheel dolly. I really only DIY rotated them twice before I got a new set of Michelin tires which came with the 50k...
  2. Jack stands?

I contemplated the same when I was about to do my 1st tire rotation. Ultimately, I just bought another hydraulic floor jack and didn't bother w/ the jack stands. #SimpleSolution
  3. T-Boned at Intersection. Rivian Totaled

You don't need a usb drive plugged in for it to record an accident. The on-board drive stores the camera videos. Unfortunately, I know this first-hand since my R1S was rear-ended back in November and all 4 cameras recorded 2 minutes of video (30s prior to impact) and I had taken out my usb...
  4. Cost of ownership, parts, and right to repair

Obviously, Rivian has a major head start, and there's LOTS of *ifs*, but at the end of the day, consumers looking for a truck/SUV EV will be considering both in addition to all the other new competition in the next 2+ years. That said, supposedly 70% of the Scout 50k+ preorders are for the EREV...
  5. Cost of ownership, parts, and right to repair

Cite your evidence that most people buy large vehicles to carry kids considering that the average number of children per family in the US is < 2 which fits just fine in a 2 row 5-6 passenger truck/SuV. FWIW my family includes one daughter and 2 gods and we've owned large 6k+ lbs SUVs/trucks for...
  6. Cost of ownership, parts, and right to repair

Well there was definitely that benefit as well especially when I took my future wife on a date at the Bengies Drive-In movie theater in 1986 which wasn't the same experience when I took her last year in my R1S . :p
  7. Cost of ownership, parts, and right to repair

There are plenty of F250s, F350s, et. al. that offer a front bench seat w/ plenty of room for 3 adult passengers. Don't believe the F.U.D.D. Safety is MUCH better now w/ side air bags among many other new safety features than we had in the 70s and 80s. I'm looking forward to having the option...
  8. Cost of ownership, parts, and right to repair

FWIW, 3 adults fit very comfortable in the front bench seat of my first car, a 1976 Buick Century as well as plenty of Ford F150s over the years as well as many other trucks. The point of a front bench seat is to seat 3 passengers just like the second row. What's the point of a 3rd row that...
  9. Lotta Brake Dust - R1S Quad

Considering my 6k+ lbs 2019 Audi Q7 w/ 83k+ miles on it has it's original pads & rotors, any less than 100k miles on my original R1S brakes/pads would be a disappointment considering that I ALWAYS are in max regen mode and rarely touch the brake pedal.
  10. Brake Pad Replacement Cost ?

Considering that replacing my R1S 12V battery would have cost me $800 + $200 for the tow if it wasn't under warranty, I'd say that's a lot cheaper than I expected.
  11. Cost of ownership, parts, and right to repair

Don't fool yourself. Scout will definitely be a direct Rivian competitor. Weird 6 seat config? It's called a bench seat after you fold down the middle which was pretty standard back in the day and one of the reasons I put down my $100 deposit since I don't need the 7 seats of my R1S which most...
  12. Cost of ownership, parts, and right to repair

One of many reasons why I put down my $100 deposit ... https://www.thedrive.com/news/scout-wants-to-build-evs-you-can-fix-yourself
  13. Cost of ownership, parts, and right to repair

Very legitimate concern but I wouldn't hold my breath on right to repair nor parts availability. My 2023 R1S (44k mikes in 17 months) was rear-ended 11/19 and one of the reasons it took more than a week for the Rivian certified repair facility to come up with the estimate was due to the rear...
  14. Yakima EXO System is the best swing away cargo hitch-based solution for my R1S

I looked at the Thule but only the EXO has the double-decker design with so many interchangeable component options and Yakimas are engineered much stronger IMHO.
  15. Tire wear with suspension in LOW

I ONLY drive in Sport mode lowest ride height and got completely even treadwear on my original OEM 22" which I rotated every 11k miles and lasted 31k+ miles but probably could have gone another 3k-4k. The #1 uneven treadwear cause is misalignment.
  16. Time for new tires - what is the recommended aftermarket tire for 22"?

Well, the more tread, the longer they last and the more noise/vibration they will have. As always, life is about trade-offs and I'd much rather have the longer lasting treadwear and grip and if they are too noisy, then I just crank up the music. #YMMV
  17. Time for new tires - what is the recommended aftermarket tire for 22"?

    1) no noticeable difference w/ Pirellis 2) don't even know what you mean. it's a TRUCK. smoothness isn't even in my criteria but it does come w/ a lot more tread on it. IIRC the Pirellis start w/ 9mm or tread where as the Michelins start w/ 12.5 which is why the Michelins come w/ a 50k mile...
  18. Time for new tires - what is the recommended aftermarket tire for 22"?

Michelin Defenders FTW! My OEM Pirellis last 31k although probably could have squeaked out another 3k-4k miles on them but was going on a heavily-loaded road trip so got the Defenders. As always, tirerack.com had the best deal, so had them delivered to the local Pep Boys for installation...
