  1. Snow Mode?

I ordered the Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3s week and should have them on the truck next Tuesday (just in time for another storm apparently.) I debated pretty hard about just running with the OEM 20s all winter and my experience on them was actually good. But I live at 7000’ and I’m often up at 9000’...
  2. 20” Blizzak snow tires installed

If a car manufacturer says load rating is X then that’s the minimum any tire shop will/should put on it. It’s a liability issue to use less.
  3. 20” Blizzak snow tires installed

I think the load rating is too low on those. The X-Ice have a higher load rating but are hard to find from what I’ve read. Nokians might be the best option but again are hard to find. Maybe Simpletire has them?
  4. Snow Mode Needed! - My first snow drives in R1S and R1T

I just ordered these and should have them after Thanksgiving. I think they are 54 lbs whereas the Pirellis are 48 lbs. A friend who recently got the Nokians on his R1T thinks that they need to be driven for a few hundred miles and then rebalanced since they are thick and heavy.
  5. 20” Blizzak snow tires installed

I just ordered the Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3s. Should be here after Thanksgiving. The 20" ATs have been pretty good for me so far in the snow. But the more I thought about it the more it made sense to go from good enough to better/best. We've had cold temps the last week and the ATs just seem...
  6. Tesla releases J1772 Wall Connector Home Charger (For Non-Teslas)

I ordered the new Tesla J1772 Wall Connector and my electrician just installed it today to pair with the existing Wall Connector I’ve been sharing between my R1T and wife’s Model Y. It’s exactly the same as the Gen 3 Wall Connector except it’s black and it has the J1772 connector. We have both...
  7. Snow Driving And Regen Braking

Maybe not sideways but yeah, I don't know. I would assume the same, that if you hit the brakes then the brakes do the work. But if it's just regen doing the braking, I don't know how it controls things from that point but you'd think like you said the traction controls and everything would take...
  8. Snow Driving And Regen Braking

My experience in snow has been pretty good overall on the 20" ATs. We've had a few decent storms so far and I live in the mountains and we have some steep hills. No issues going uphill during a pretty good storm with heavy, wet snow where some other cars' wheels were spinning. Downhill was what...
  9. 20” Blizzak snow tires installed

We had that storm in Utah on Wednesday and I was one some steep winding roads as it was coming down hard, and the truck handled well on the ATs. You really have to feather the throttle with the regen so that it doesn't brake too hard. I assume you're doing that but it took me a couple times in...
  10. Initial Winter Driving on Snow -- Experience in R1T on 20" AT

An update… We just had a big storm roll through (seems like a good 8” at my house, more in the higher elevations) and I had to do a ton of driving today, so it was the most I’ve been out on snowy roads. In the morning I was up and down some steep winding roads on the mountain, afternoon and...
  11. Ski day trip in R1T - efficiency data

What size skis do you have and how well do they fit on the rack? Do they bump against the window? I was worried the position of the crossbars wouldn’t work well but it looks like they fit just fine.
  12. Jebinc’s rubber bed liner mod

Did you buy it in store? I couldn't find anything quite right at my local HD and not sure which one it is looking at the website.
  13. Registration Improvement!

Still waiting on mine in Utah. Guide says they have what they need and it should be completed/received in 2-3 weeks. I'm at 60 days post-delivery and month to go on my temporary registration, so not nearly as long as some of you have been waiting. Just another data point.
  14. Initial Winter Driving on Snow -- Experience in R1T on 20" AT

@crashmtb is correct, you have to feather the throttle. It never felt like brakes locking up they way they would with an ICE vehicle and as soon as I pushed back on the throttle it corrected. It's just a new/different feeling that'll take some getting used to. I can see ultimately liking it more...
  15. Initial Winter Driving on Snow -- Experience in R1T on 20" AT

I was on Standard regen. It wasn't bad slipping, just noticeable. I don't think it'll be too hard to finesse with the throttle with a little more practice in the snow. Storm coming next week supposedly...
  16. Initial Winter Driving on Snow -- Experience in R1T on 20" AT

Which size wheels did you order for the R1S? Nothing beats a winter tire but I’d feel better about the OEM 20s than I would the 21s or 22s. The 20s are at least severe snow service rated which is why I’m giving them a shot.
  17. Initial Winter Driving on Snow -- Experience in R1T on 20" AT

I have many of the same concerns about the buttons and door handles and ice/snow. Maybe for version 2 of the truck they can add some heat to these areas to keep things clean? As long as I can get in the truck I can at least open those things from the screen. Small concerns in the scheme or things.
  18. Initial Winter Driving on Snow -- Experience in R1T on 20" AT

I don’t have anything like that on the headlights or roof but might try it. Why don’t you like it on the windshield if I may ask?
  19. Initial Winter Driving on Snow -- Experience in R1T on 20" AT

Well said and I agree. This is the benefit of the software platform and being able to react quickly.
  20. Initial Winter Driving on Snow -- Experience in R1T on 20" AT

Good note on the hood, I didn't even try to open it yesterday, We're supposed to get another storm in about a week, so there will be more chances to test it out. I definitely need to play around with turns and see what's my fault vs. the truck's fault. ;-)
