  1. Launch Mode coming to Gen1 + Apple Watch support w/ active entry (both coming early 2026) -- confirmed by Wassym

You asked: I thought emergency use was a valid point if your phone or fob battery is dead, or your normal means of entry is lost or broken. Another use case for what I proposed is when you don’t want to have a phone or fob with you but you want to get back into your car after swimming...
  2. Launch Mode coming to Gen1 + Apple Watch support w/ active entry (both coming early 2026) -- confirmed by Wassym

If it only unlocks the vehicle but doesn’t permit driving then I’d hide a keycard in the vehicle so the watch gets me in and the card lets me drive. Hopefully the watch active entry will also permit the vehicle to be driven so no hidden backup card will be needed.
  3. Cybertruck Laugh of the Day [āš ļø WARNING: NO POLITICS; MEMBERS BANNED]

I think a better match for CyberTruck-shaped appliances would be a vacuum. People expect them to suck.
  4. Spooky, well that was that then. šŸ˜

I also liked the motion activated feature this year and it seemed to be a hit with friends, too. I personally appreciated the interior overhead lighting / lightning flashes and the interactive stuff on the drive modes screen. It was fun to find the animations and I liked the spider and swamp...
  5. Request: Lighted charging socket

I don't understand why the timeout on the charge port LED is so short. It can't be a power-saving thing given that it should use a minuscule amount of power. In my mind, once the charge port is opened the light which shines down on the port should stay on until at least one of three things...
  6. Just picked up the new Pirelli Scorpion XTM even though I hate the OEM set.

How many miles do you have on your R1S? The Pirellis got noisier as we saw over 12k miles or so on the odometer of our 2023 Launch Edition. With over 10k miles I’m starting to notice the noise on our 2025 Dune R1S so the Dune floor lining doesnā€˜t seem any better at taming the Scorpion noise...
  7. R1 turn signals improvement suggestion - 2 extra & bike racks

It does seem to stay on longer than it should following a lane change. In addition, I find the newer behavior of self-canceling on a lane change on certain roads plus the occasional accidental past-detent push to mean that sometimes I don’t know if the signal is latched on (will stay on until...
  8. Rivian CEO: "We’re really convicted" about skipping CarPlay (The Verge interview 10/6/25))

I was going to say this so thanks for putting that so well. Another related factor is the boxiness. American consumers seem to really like boxy SUVs for the practicality of enclosed volume and/or the visual appearance. The Model Y reads as a crossover, at best, and a lot of people place value...
  9. Just fix the software

At the risk of adding a potentially useful suggestion after reading through 5 pages: Have you taken it in for service? I’ve had 2 Rivians so far and neither has had the issues you describe. From what I’ve read here, most people aren’t reporting the same issues you’re experiencing. This makes me...
  10. Rivian CEO: "We’re really convicted" about skipping CarPlay (The Verge interview 10/6/25))

I’ve always preferred wired CarPlay and use our EV Play via a wired connection for this reason. With two people who drive the car this provides a quick and easy way of determining which person’s phone is being used by CP. Added bonuses: Without the Wi-Fi being used for CP, you can use Rivian’s...
  11. Be careful using “Prepare for fast charging”

Yes, and the same on 2025.34 yesterday: indication that it’s heating the battery and the battery temp in gauges went up.
  12. The 2 things that will keep me from upgrading from OG Gen 1

No, I think you’re absolutely correct when the torque matters more than the horsepower. I went from a Gen1 Quad R1S on 20ā€ AT tires to a Gen2 Tri R1S on 20ā€ AT tires so the only thing that changed with the configuration was the drivetrain. I’ve had to dial back my throttle usage from a stop or...
  13. Headlights Blinding When Trying to Plug In Charger

Perfect reference for being blinded by the light! As a little kid I always thought the lyric was, ā€wrapped up like a douche,ā€ but officially it’s, ā€œrevved up like a deuce,ā€ as in revved up like a deuce coupe hot rod.
  14. “Charging speed reduced” …but it isn’t

When I arrived at the station the vehicle preconditioning reported a max charging rate of 150kW, which matched up with what we were getting initially. When another Rivian disconnected we jumped up to the 192kW so I'm assuming there was some maximum on a shared circuit. I'll have to check in the...
  15. “Charging speed reduced” …but it isn’t

I’ve noticed that I get the ā€œCharging speed reduced Slower due to cabin and battery cooling.ā€ whenever I start DCFC during the summer with the A/C on, yet the only time I see reduced speeds is when I’m charging at a high rate (over 150kW or so) which is throttled even during winter with the...
  16. J1772 AC to NACS adapter was left behind HEADS-UP

Tape is easier but with something like this it’s important to make sure the tape works outdoors and in high heat. Otherwise there may be a real mess when removing the hot adapter after a summer charging session. Getting hot gooey tape adhesive on clothes, door handles, and a steering wheel may...
  17. J1772 AC to NACS adapter was left behind HEADS-UP

My mom is 88 and I started getting her brightly colored phone cases, wallets, charging cables, and remote control covers years ago. This really helped her notice things to not leave them behind and find things she puts down in a different location. When you get the replacement maybe buy a can...
  18. Forget about Gen 2, let's talk about Gen 3 R1!

Everyone has different needs. I’ve had maps specific to some parks, a measuring tape, a Swiss Army knife, binoculars., registration, insurance card, napkins, plastic utensils, hand sanitizer, moisturizer, sunscreen,, and multiple pairs of sunglasses. Oh, and occasionally, gloves. Gloveboxes...
  19. Forget about Gen 2, let's talk about Gen 3 R1!

I hope Gen 3 will have a redesigned dashboard with a top surface that has more structural integrity than wet cardboard, better vent placement, and at least one glovebox.
  20. What About That R2 Sunroof?

Yes, Rivian’s roof doesn’t make the tinted glass darker by tinting it more as what you describe in the BMW. It sounds like the BMW solution trades an increase in heat absorption for a decrease in brightness. With Rivian’s solution, the glass appears to get whiter as if you applied a white...
