Great write up. My biggest concern with this is putting the holes in the wrong place and it sounds as if it’s not as clear as it could be. Could the paper guides be even better marked to help? It seems they marked to show other elements like screw holes but it’s a design guide vs a user doc
It’s clearly meant to be:
“The Yakima TailWhip locks the rear tire of your bike to your Yakima bike rack. This TailWhip is only compatible with the Yakima HighSpeed bike rack“
Ok so with it mounted in the proper backwards position according to Rivian (but not Yakima) it fits fine. Total height of bike top to ground is 8'3" so should be good even for the crazy Merritt Parkway.
Plenty of space between the rear wheel and the cab
Still need to figure out a few things...
There are definite sleep times. Sometimes you open the Rivian app and it indicates the car is sleeping and other times it doesn’t. The api also returns a sleep state when it’s sleeping. So there is a time (like Tesla) when the car is sleeping to reduce phantom drain. The algorithm on the Tesla...
I got my truck so I updated the API to support vehicle status commands/polling.
API/CLI here: https://github.com/the-mace/rivian-python-api
Vehicle State:
Power State: sleep
Drive Mode: everyday
Gear Status: park
Battery Level: 64.0%
Range: 302 miles
Battery Limit: 70.0%
Charging state...

Still not sure if it rattles with no bike/closed position will have to do some driving
Thanks, I thought it had to go on forward facing, didnt see the separate Rivian guide on it. How do you decide how far horizontally to put the bikes? Further in is hard to reach from the side of the truck
Wow, thank you. That didnt come in the instructions with the bike mount. Just got standard bike mount instructions. I'll try it backwards.
Do people leave it on when not moving a bike? Do the bars rattle or do you secure them somehow?
Its been a week since I got my R1T and I finally got out to try the bike mount Rivian sells. The Rivian offered bike rack wont fit above the bed without the front bar touching the cab when fully open regardless of your bike size. I put my bike on anyway, a 54cm Trek Domane and even with a...
So I ordered the running boards a short while ago and i'll have a wait, no big deal. I ordered their 4" hole cutter but now in looking at the requirements I need some things:
Given there are 3 install methods i'm not sure which ones I do/dont need (again i'm not great at this stuff).
I have a...
Their support is super friendly and helpful but their messaging and the app itself is flaky. They use a third party service for API connectivity (sort of makes sense to isolate yourself from unsupported unofficial third party APIs) which means they have little control over some things.
The...
On the Teslas (I have one) with all the various third party apps you need to ensure they're not keeping the car from sleeping. Tesla does nothing to prevent excessive API traffic from keeping the car awake and burning a ton of juice. On Rivian we're not there yet but at some point the third...
I was hopeful on the 12V in the frunk for the same reasons but alas nothing there. I'd guess someone will do an aftermarket charge mod at some point.
I did OptiCoat Pro Plus, whole car (which is pretty standard). No PPF. I did the same for my Teslas when I got them and it holds up well and i'm...
Appreciate that @EV Sportline is making great products for the Rivian. Many wouldnt approach a small or new market and this gives us options for needed items like tonneau covers and running boards.
First week has been awesome. Much better than I expected. Lots of running around with inspections, ski trip adventure, and a clear coat process. I’m at 800 miles already.
I have the 12v under the center screen (and 120v under the rear screen) but no power outlet in the frunk. That’s a a small...
They made an apt and said if they think it can be done with a visit to me they'll let me know. I'm an hour away (without traffic) so we'll see. Took me 2 hours to get there for delivery day at 10am...
