I had to replace the 12-volt battery in my Tesla recently, after 7 years. This is a little longer than an ICE vehicle.
I assume the cost to step down the voltage from the high-voltage battery to low-voltage (12 volts) is more than having a separate battery, which is why Tesla and Rivian are...
I like the Forest Green better than the Launch Green. The latter seems kind of drab, whereas the former has some energy. My tastes run different than today's "black out" design and choices.
Note that the R2 white is the same as the new R1 white (Glacier White). R2 originally toured with Cloud...
The Palo Alto Block Party for R2 (https://events.rivian.com/r2blockpartypaloalto) started a day early (Thursday, May 14th)! As expected there were lots of people, but not enough to cause lines to form. There were plenty of staff to assist with questions and to do some minor feature...
I prefer the premium features in a vehicle, and usually spend the money since I keep these extremely nice vehicles for a very long time. But the R1S is just too damn big for daily use, and it costs too much. The additional storage space in the R2 may be sufficient to not have to use a roof rack...
I used the term "mobile" because that is what both Tesla and Rivian call these "plug in" chargers.
And because they can be unplugged they are mobile, but I have never had a reason to take my charger with me anywhere. Also most have both 120-volt and 240-volt attachments. The 120 only adds a few...
The "mobile" chargers are half the wall charger price, and don't need installation if you already have a NEMA 14-50 outlet. The downside tends to be amperage (32 for mobile, 50 for wall). 32 amps provides over 20 miles per hour of charging, which is plenty when you have all night.
For example...
The white color shows the styling of the vehicle the best! Unfortunately changed from the Cloud White (original R2 touring vehicle) to Glacier White, which is not as nice in my opinion. The San Francisco Bay Area does not need another flat white vehicle with a black interior on the road!
So to...
Catalina Cove looks dark in these indoor photos with all the black trim. In the outdoor videos it was teal blue, and then green-ish at different light angles. Catalina Cove is very different from the Rivian blue in the R1 based on a photo posted of the vehicles next to each other at a charging...
Has anyone measured the front-rear distance of the roof rack mounting points on the R2?
My Thule rack has a range of distances it can accommodate. This is not an issue on my Jeep as the cross bars can slide forward and back to support any rack dimensions. Thanks in advance!
For the near term the LiDAR will mostly be used for data collection (aka data flywheel). Most of the driving benefits from this high resolution data will be available to Gen 2 hardware in R2 and R1.
Maybe some day, if ever, the Gen 3 hardware and LiDAR may be needed for Level 4 autonomy. Us...
I wanted a Rivian back in 2019 when I bought my Model 3 Performance. The Tesla has been awesome, a great commute vehicle, and a nice complement to my Jeep with a Hemi. The R1S is way too big, and frankly way too much money for a vehicle. The R2 isn't inexpensive, but it is the right size, and...
If the OEM options do not exist or are not good enough, I have outfitted many vehicles over many decades with https://www.weathertech.com/. I would expect some R2 support from many vendors.
On the videos Catalina Cove seemed to change from blue to green depending on the sun and viewing angle, which is supposedly by design.
I checked Walnut Creek (San Francisco Bay Area) this past weekend but they did not have the R2 colors yet.
The frunk automation was covered in one of the YouTube videos. The powered up is helpful when hands are full so hopefully you don't have to put groceries or gear on the ground to open it. And yes, the closing action is much better than the Model 3.
I don't use the frunk much on my Tesla, but...
