I am interested although I don't yet know if the R2 glove boxes are lockable. My Tesla has a code entered on the center console to unlock the glove box. In my Jeep I have something similar to this which uses a cable chain. Anyhow, I see the R1 options and will inquire about R2. Thanks!
Tesla owners received J1772 to NACS with their vehicles. Most have probably never been used. Check craigslist or other auto sales portals.
I am keeping my adapter for use with Level 2 chargers on the Rivian R2!
Yes, sliding on/off the seat in my Jeep Grand Cherokee has damaged the driver seat. Fortunately I was able to find a nice seat cover that fit and matched the color.
I buy fully loaded vehicles, accessorize, and make some minor modifications (suspension upgrades, performance improvements). I also keep these vehicles 15+ years, so buying has always made sense for my use cases.
Leasing an R2 may be an option to consider though. It depends on what features, if...
Agreed, more people need to know about Rivian. When people start seeing R2s on the road later this year I think the buzz will get momentum 'cause it will be so much more useful (and better looking) than a Model Y.
A pre-production R2 was shown, and no new information here. Disappointed in this CNBC report.
But 23 months after putting down my reservation I am still super excited to be able to place my order for an R2, and hopefully in the next few months! And then many more months until delvery.
Jeep had an Overland trim of the Recon at the Silicon Valley Auto Show. The Overland trim is a little nicer than the default Moab trim, with the rest of the vehicle nearly identical. I have loved my Jeeps over the past several decades, but a Rivian R2 should be a much better electric vehicle...
Unless Rivian allows more than viewing R2 from behind velvet ropes, these car shows won't add any value. We have been able to view R2 from arms-length for over a year. The best option for now is the numerous videos from "car guys" who were allowed to do closer and more detailed reviews.
The Overland trim of the Jeep Recon was on display at the Silicon Valley Auto Show. They allowed us to get inside, play with the electronics, open all the doors and hatches, and check out the frunk (tiny) and trunk (also small). I also got the dimensions and weight.
The Recon is a nice...
The Gen 3 hardware and LiDAR are perfect examples of earlier contrarian comments. If R2 does not provide for a FREE upgrade path from the initial builds to Gen 3 plus LiDAR it ain't future proof! And that includes sufficient compute power to handle the ever-increasing software requirements.
The issue I have is availability of DC (fast) charging on road trips. Without access to Tesla Superchargers road trips are even more inconvenient with an EV. My Jeep with a V-8 has a 400-mile range. And my Tesla came with a J1772 adapter for overnight destination charging, if needed.
As a very happy Jeep owner of 30+ years I am disappointed with some aspects of the Recon. It is cool looking and willl off-road capable, albeit for short distances. Less than 250 of range is terrible for 2026!
Also note the J1772 charging connector. Not having NACS is a non-starter for us...
There are many spare tire carrier options that are hitch mounted. But like with a Jeep Wrangler you want a matching wheel and tire, which can be expensive. And yes, the ability to access the rear cargo area without having to move the spare tire will be useful with the current R2 window design...
Keep the PHOTOS coming, and the chatter to a minimum please.
Has anyone seen interior cargo space specs for R2? I am guessing around 75 cubic-feet with the rear seats folded, plus the frunk. Thanks in advance for any additional detail.
