I took a friend to the Rivian shop a couple of days ago, also to replace his ancient 4Runner. He really liked the R1T, but is more likely to go for an R2 based on the size (and cost).
And agreed, comparisons between a Rivian and a Model Y are silly to ME because I would never consider a Model Y...
The length may be another foot if a spare tire is mounted on the back like a Wrangler.
I can't believe they are attempting to release a vehicle without a NACS port!
On 11/18/2025, in preparation for the LA Auto Show, Jeep released some additional information on the Recon, which would be an R2 competitor. Unfortunately they did not release the dimensions, but since it is using the same platform as the Wagoneer S electric vehicle is should be similar in size...
Some of the near-final production line builds from the Normal assembly plant should be delivered to the automotive reviewers for testing and evaluation. Even though they may be slightly biased toward Rivian, they should be a decent review of the vehicle fit and dynamics! Hopefully this is late...
V2H is good news for those of us who could not use this feature because Tesla wanted to sell us Powerwalls instead of allowing us to use the much larger battery under our vehicle. Now that I have solar and battery I don't know how valuable Rivian V2H will be for me, unless it is virtually free...
Understood, but it would be really nice to get to do more with R2 than observe from a distance. We need to get inside, drive, configure, price, and place our order.
There have been good postings about R2 recently, but terrible news related to Rivian. I have taken business risks when buying my...
Unfortunately Rivian is not listed as an exhibitor in the Silicon Valley auto show in early January. The interim CMO needs to make R2 more known in the key market of Northern California!
Maybe Jeep will finally show and provide details on the Recon if the R2 isn't going to be onsite.
My NEMA 14-50 outlet had some visible wear from heat after years charging my Tesla. The Tesla app alerted me to this overheating issue. Maybe your connection is aging prematurely and needs to be replaced.
I have seen pre-production Rivian R1s and Tesla Cybertruck near Lake Tahoe (California) for some winter testing. Hopefully there will be some R2s on the road to get pre-production sightings.
The service center in Hayward is open for business! It is a large warehouse with a small and minimalistic guest lounge. There are about a dozen service bays, with plenty of room for expansion. It does not look like a traditional automotive service center given the layout of the lifts and tools.
We got to see the R2 on tour in the San Francisco area. So far it is very much like the R1S but without the air suspension, and of course smaller. It should be slightly smaller than my Jeep Grand Cherokee and slightly larger than my wife's Jeep Cherokee, which is the perfect size for our needs!
The Model Y is in the same category as the Mach E. Neither are SUVs like the R2 is supposed to be. And just like the Jeep Wagoneer S, I cannot attach a ski rack to the roof, nor put a bike rack on a rear hitch, tow a trailer, nor go off road because there is insufficient ground clearance. The...
Agreed, the talking heads in DC and the billionaires are evil. But I am going to be selfish also and want a great R2 with a viable company to back it for at least a couple of decades.
