I am another vote for OP to jump in. We have been all-BEV since 2009.
No problems with different charge connectors at home.
If you don't do road trips, almost any ev will do (as long as it has 300 miles for OP). I have done long EV road trips since 2009 so I am used to dealing with sparse...
I haven't been following the Rivian wheel market (still no idea when my Rivian will be delivered!) so this may not be applicable - demand, supply, and all that. Rivian spares still seem hard to come by, so that could have an effect. But I sold a few takes-offs from Teslas over the years, and I...
I got a guide about 3 months ago. All that happened was I shortly got access to the R1 store. But there's no max packs in there yet, so it didn't help...I assume they were just hoping I'd switch.
Thanks OP - I appreciate perspective from owners that have had one for a while far more than internet reviewers that drive one for an hour or day or so.
That's funny. So much has changed over the years, and yet so much has stayed the same.
I started driving electric in 2008, but initially...
In the 1980's, we had word processor wars. There were three big players, and all three of them wanted to gain market share - but were frustrated by how locked in people were to their existing word processors.
People with A wouldn't switch away because A had features x, y and z and the others...
I also have a max-pack R1T reserved, and I just got my second invitation to the R1 Shop (which will only show R1Ts if you have an R1T reservation). You are correct that there are no max-pack vehicles in the shop. I assume they are hoping you'll bite on one of their "spare" large-packs R1Ts and...
My wife and I sold our last ICE in 2009. Not a single regret in the 14 years since then. And it's not just like we only drive near home...here's a picture of some of the places we've been in our EVs:
EDIT: map updated to reflect a trip we took across Canada in Sept 2024
In case anyone else is in this situation, proceed cautiously...
I had access to the R1T shop. I just changed my config to an R1S, hoping to see the R1S shop. Instead I see nothing. OK, fine - no real surprise. I changed back to an R1T...and now I don't have access to that shop either.
Not a...
Thanks for the reply. That explains things, but...I don't want to change my config yet, because supposedly next month they'll offer me a lower price on a 2-motor max pack truck, which would be super handy for towing our trailer. I'm afraid if I switch my config to an S (which will be handy for...
I got an invite to the "R1 shop" last month. I check it regularly (including just now) and it only ever shows R1Ts.
Do you need a separate invite to see R1Ss - are they really in a separate shop? Or do they only match your configured T-or-S (I currently am configured for an R1T max pack, but...
I've only test-driven an R1T...but my impression was that while I'd rather drive my old Model 3 or S, or even my current Y than the big ol' Rivian (I prefer small, sporty cars)...I would prefer to drive the R1T over my wife's Model X 100D.
Even my wife - who loves her X and HATES to have...
He's a former Tesla employee that has purchased and tested several different EVs (he then rents most of them out on Turo). He seems to spend a lot of time trying to find pre-breaking news like this. I don't follow everything he posts, and this is a difficult type of "news" to always get right...
Yes, the cargo bars will affect range. Hard to say exactly how much though - depends on where they are in the aero profile. It could be something minor like 3%, but double that wouldn't surprise me at all. Triple would be surprising, but possible.
This thread is (almost exactly) a decade old...
Wow, that's great to hear. Assuming (?) you were pulling 12A on a 15A circuit, that's 1.44kW. Over 10 hours the outlet could provide 14.4kW (probably under 13kW considering charging losses), and you got 10kW in to your battery. That's fantastic...I am surprised that the Rivian battery can charge...
I have no testing results to report, but some back-of-the-napkin math:
I believe Rivian is working on a heat pump, but so far is still using resistance heaters. Say it's similar to a 1500W hair dryer. But it probably won't be full blast all the time, so let's say it averages 1000W of output...
How long was the commute? Startup costs (warming up the cabin and battery, for example) can do terrible things to efficiency numbers for short trips. The longer you drive, the less it matters.
Many years ago I had a Honda Insight. I got anywhere from 46mpg to 82mpg on various round trips while...
I haven't had a gas car since 2009, so all of our road trips (we have been cross-country multiple times) have been in EVs. So I'd encourage you to take the EV - I really prefer driving them.
However, cold weather does make a difference. Your range will definitely drop - air is denser, the...
I'd be more worried about the weather (coupled with the deadline) than charging. Though of course you'll want to do some planning on where to charge ahead of time!
Everyone switching to an EV has to make a first trip sometime. Might as well be now. My first trip was in 2010; I went 3,500 miles...
Rivian hasn't delivered what they promised; and I understand why that's disappointing to a lot of people. I'm sorry for you folks, but...
...for me, it's perfect. When I placed the order I wished there was a way to get a cheaper AWD truck with less performance. A 2-motor Max truck will be...
